Reality Shift

{1}{U}

Instant

LegalRemovalRank #273

Exile target creature. Its controller manifests the top card of their library. (That player puts the top card of their library onto the battlefield face down as a 2/2 creature. If it's a creature card, it can be turned face up any time for its mana cost.)

KeywordsManifest

Why is this card good?

Reality Shift is premium mono-blue creature removal, and the manifest "downside" rarely matters. Why it's good: at two mana, instant-speed exile is the gold standard — it dodges indestructible, death triggers, regeneration, and graveyard recursion. Blue is historically starved for unconditional removal that hits big threats, so getting exile this cheaply is excellent. The opponent only gets a vanilla 2/2 (or occasionally a face-up creature they can pay for), which is a tiny consolation versus exiling their commander or a key combo piece. What wants it: basically every blue deck — control, spellslinger, tempo, and especially decks light on board wipes that need cheap interaction. It shines against voltron/commander-centric decks where exiling a threat permanently is back-breaking. When not to play it: against aristocrats or reanimator strategies, that free 2/2 manifest can feed sacrifice outlets or fuel value — and you're sometimes giving an opponent a needed body or even a free fatty. Against go-wide tokens decks, one extra 2/2 is irrelevant; prioritize sweepers instead. Still, a near-auto-include for blue.
