Why is this card good?

Temple of Deceit is a solid, unglamorous dual land for any Dimir (UB) deck — and that's exactly what most multicolor decks need. The scry 1 on entry is the selling point. It smooths your draws and, importantly, isn't a one-time burst of value you regret later: every land that fixes mana and does something is worth a slot. In a 100-card singleton format, consistency matters, and scry helps you find your bombs or dodge a flood. The cost is the tapped clause. On turn one or two it's nearly free; later in the game it can cost you a tempo-critical turn. That's the only real downside. Who wants it: any two-color Dimir deck, plus three+ color decks with UB in their identity that aren't hyper-competitive. When to skip it: fast combo or cEDH decks that can't afford tapped lands, and aggressive low-curve builds where every untapped source counts. There you'd prefer shocks, fastlands, or true duals. Otherwise, run it.

When you scry, you may put all the cards you look at back on top of your library, you may put all of those cards on the bottom of your library, or you may put some of those cards on top and the rest of them on the bottom.

  • 2013-09-15

You choose how to order cards returned to your library after scrying no matter where you put them.

  • 2013-09-15

You perform the actions stated on a card in sequence. For some spells and abilities, that means you'll scry last. For others, that means you'll scry and then perform other actions.

  • 2013-09-15

Scry appears on some spells and abilities with one or more targets. If all of the spell or ability's targets are illegal when it tries to resolve, it won't resolve and none of its effects will happen. You won't scry.
