The Commander

Shroud (This creature can't be the target of spells or abilities.)

{G}: Until end of turn, Autumn Willow can be the target of spells and abilities controlled by target player as though it didn't have shroud.

Guide

Gameplan

Autumn Willow is a mono-green beatdown/Voltron commander whose shroud makes her nearly impossible to interact with. Ramp into her early, suit her up with auras and equipment that pump and grant evasion, and swing for lethal commander damage while her own ability lets you choose exactly who can target her (so you can re-enable your own beneficial spells when needed).

Strengths

  • Built-in shroud dodges removal, edicts aside, making her a resilient Voltron threat
  • Mono-green gives the best ramp in the format for casting and recasting her
  • Her activated ability lets you selectively turn off shroud to receive your own buffs or protection
  • Cheap to control the targeting clause, so you're never fully locked out of equipping or enchanting her

Weaknesses

  • Shroud means you can't easily target her with auras/equipment activations without paying {G} each turn
  • Mono-green struggles with flying blockers, board wipes, and non-targeted removal
  • Vulnerable to sacrifice effects and edicts that shroud doesn't stop
  • No card advantage or interaction baked into the commander herself
  • Pillowfort/Fog-style decks and chump blockers can stall her single-creature plan

Key Cards

  • Shield of the Oversoul — Grants flying and indestructible, turning Autumn Willow into a near-unkillable evasive threat.
  • Rancor — Cheap recurring power boost and trample that keeps coming back after board wipes.
  • Lightning Greaves — Already-shrouded commander means you mainly want the haste, letting her attack the turn she lands.
  • Nylea's Presence — Demonstrates the equip/aura tension—remember you must use her {G} ability to target her with your own enchantments.
  • Sword of Fire and Ice — Adds protection, evasion, damage, and card draw to push commander-damage kills.
  • Cultivate — Core ramp to power out a 6-mana commander and recast her after removal.

Upgrade Path

Lean harder into evasion and protection enchantments (Shield of the Oversoul, Snake Umbra, Hardened Scales-style pumps) and add fast mana like Sol Ring, Birds of Paradise, and Carpet of Flowers to deploy her early. Diversify threats with proliferate/+1+1 synergies and add reach answers such as Beast Within and Song of the Dryads, plus a Finale of Devastation or Craterhoof Behemoth as an alternate finisher when she stalls.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Commander damage via pumped, evasive Autumn Willow (21 to a player)
  • ▸Trample-enabled overrun with a single large threat
  • ▸Backup big creatures and Overrun-style effects closing out after she draws removal

Archetypes

  • Voltron — Shroud protects her from targeted removal, making her the ideal hard-to-kill carrier for auras and equipment.
  • Stompy/Aggro — Mono-green ramp and big creatures support a fast, evasive beatdown plan backed by Autumn Willow.
  • Hexproof/Pump Tribal — She slots into go-wide untargetable threats while remaining the resilient anchor.
