The Commander

Legendary landwalk (This creature can't be blocked as long as defending player controls a legendary land.)

Guide

Gameplan

Ayumi is a mono-green lands-matter voltron commander: each time she connects, you tutor a legendary land straight onto the battlefield, snowballing your mana and feeding into game-ending green payoffs. Early turns ramp and develop, then you suit Ayumi up with trample/evasion so the first hit fetches Gaea's Cradle (or another bomb land) and every subsequent swing buries opponents. You close with commander damage or by dumping the explosive mana into oversized threats.

Strengths

  • Free, repeatable legendary land tutoring that ramps and fixes without spending cards
  • Built-in evasion against the many decks running legendary lands (Cradle, Boseiju, etc.)
  • Mono-green gives access to the format's best ramp, fight removal, and recursion
  • Cheap, resilient commander that immediately advances your mana every combat
  • Synergizes with toolbox legendary utility lands (Yavimaya Hollow, Boseiju Who Endures)

Weaknesses

  • Needs to deal combat damage to do anything, so it's heavily reliant on connecting
  • Without trample or evasion enablers, a single chump blocker shuts the trigger off
  • Mono-green struggles to interact with the stack and answer combo/control
  • Removal-light color means commander removal or recurring exile slows you badly
  • Tutored lands enter tapped or only ramp—no immediate board impact like creature tutors

Key Cards

  • Gaea's Cradle — The premier Ayumi target—huge mana that explodes a wide green board into lethal threats.
  • Yavimaya Hollow — A legendary land you can fetch to regenerate Ayumi, protecting your engine through combat and removal.
  • Castle Garenbrig — Cheap legendary ramp that pumps mana into your fatties and is an easy first-hit grab.
  • Rogue's Passage — Guarantees Ayumi connects to trigger her ability and rack up commander damage.
  • Shizo, Death's Storehouse — Wait—use a green pump instead; Ayumi wants trample like Rancor to push damage through blockers.
  • Crop Rotation — Lets you swap any land for a key legendary land at instant speed to enable or extend her engine.

Upgrade Path

Maximize legendary land density (Gaea's Cradle, Nykthos, Boseiju Who Endures, Yavimaya the Golden Tree, Pendelhaven) so every trigger matters, and add reliable evasion/trample (Rancor, Loxodon Warhammer, Garruk's Uprising) plus protection like Heroic Intervention and Lightning Greaves. Lean into payoffs that abuse the mana—Craterhoof Behemoth, Finale of Devastation, and Genesis Wave—to convert Ayumi's ramp into immediate wins.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Commander damage from a trample/double-strike-equipped Ayumi
  • ▸Gaea's Cradle into a huge X-spell or overrun effect like Craterhoof Behemoth
  • ▸Grinding incremental land advantage into oversized green beaters that go wide

Archetypes

  • Voltron — Ayumi's evasion and snowballing buffs make her a natural commander-damage threat with trample and pump.
  • Lands / Ramp — Her combat trigger turns every swing into a tutored land, accelerating into mono-green mana sinks.
  • Stompy — The extra mana from fetched lands fuels enormous green creatures that overwhelm the table.
