The Commander

Haste

Celebration — As long as two or more nonland permanents entered the battlefield under your control this turn, Goddric is a Dragon with base power and toughness 4/4, flying, and "{R}: Dragons you control get +1/+0 until end of turn." (It loses all other creature types.)

Guide

Gameplan

Flood the board with cheap nonland permanents—tokens, artifacts, creatures—so that two or more enter each turn, flipping Goddric into a 4/4 flying Dragon lord that pumps your Dragon team. You play a go-wide aggro/Dragon tribal hybrid that closes games fast with haste and repeatable firebreathing.

Strengths

  • Cheap, hasty 3-mana commander that pressures the board immediately
  • Celebration is easy to turn on with token makers and cheap permanents
  • Doubles as a Dragon lord, supporting Dragon tribal payoffs and anthem effects
  • Mono-red gives consistent ramp, recursion, and burn-based interaction

Weaknesses

  • Celebration must be re-enabled every turn or Goddric is just a vanilla 3/3 with haste
  • Mono-red lacks card draw and struggles in long grinds
  • Commander damage/aggro plans fold to a single board wipe
  • Limited interaction with the stack and enchantments

Key Cards

  • Goldspan Dragon — A premium Dragon that benefits from Goddric's lord buff while generating explosive mana.
  • Terror of the Peaks — Each nonland permanent you play deals damage, turning your Celebration triggers into a burn engine.
  • Professional Face-Breaker — Cheap permanent that triggers Celebration and refuels card advantage off combat damage.
  • Krenko, Mob Boss — Floods the board with Goblins to reliably hit two-plus permanents per turn.
  • Dragon Tempest — Gives your Dragons haste and burns the table whenever one enters, scaling with your Dragon count.
  • Purphoros, God of the Forge — Each token or creature entering deals 2 damage, converting your go-wide turns into direct damage.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana (Sol Ring, Jeska's Will, Treasure makers) and reliable Celebration enablers so Goddric stays flipped every turn. Lean into either pure Dragon tribal with anthem/cost reducers like Dragonlord's Servant and Sarkhan payoffs, or maximize ETB damage with Purphoros and Terror of the Peaks for a more explosive kill. Round out with card advantage like Outpost Siege and protection such as Heroic Intervention's red analog, Dragon's Approach recursion, or simply more redundant token engines.

  • Tokens / Go-Wide Aggro — Cheap token producers reliably satisfy Celebration and provide attackers and chump fodder.
  • Spellslinger-Aggro Hybrid — Treasure and impulse-draw permanents enable both Celebration and aggressive curve-outs.
