BuildCard details

The Commander

{1}{W}: Choose another target creature. Its controller may exile it with an aegis counter on it.

{2}{W}, {T}: Return all exiled cards with aegis counters on them to the battlefield under their owners' control.

Partner (You can have two commanders if both have partner.)

Guide

Gameplan

Livio protects your key creatures by blinking them with aegis counters (dodging removal, board wipes, and resetting ETBs), then bringing them all back at once for a value/combo turn. As a Partner, he's almost always paired with a second commander to provide a payoff color or strategy, while Livio supplies a repeatable, mana-light blink engine and a Voltron-friendly protective shell.

Strengths

  • Repeatable blink/protection that dodges targeted removal and board wipes for one mana
  • Partner flexibility lets you pick a second commander that defines the deck's color and payoff
  • Cheap two-mana body that comes down early and starts protecting immediately
  • Mass return can re-trigger many ETBs at once for explosive value or combo turns

Weaknesses

  • Mono-white on his own gives no card draw or ramp without a strong partner
  • The protective ability is sorcery-speed unfriendly to use defensively only at instant speed if you have mana up, and timing matters
  • Vulnerable to having Livio himself removed before he protects anything
  • Aegis-exiled creatures leave the battlefield, so they can't block or attack while waiting

Key Cards

  • Restoration Angel — Backs up Livio with another flash blink and is a fine beater to protect.
  • Conjurer's Closet — Adds end-step blink redundancy to re-trigger ETB creatures Livio protects.
  • Felidar Guardian — Blink loops with mana rocks or Saheeli-style enablers turn Livio's package into a combo engine.
  • Swords to Plowshares — Premier white removal to keep Livio and your value creatures alive against threats.
  • Smothering Tithe — Solves mono-white's ramp problem and fuels Livio's repeated activations.
  • Mangara, the Diplomat — A strong ETB/static creature worth protecting and reusing with the return ability.

Upgrade Path

Choose a powerful partner to fix Livio's mono-white weaknesses—Tymna the Weaver for card draw, Thrasios for blue ramp/draw, or Kraum for inevitability—then build the rest of the deck around that color pair. Add fast mana (Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, Smothering Tithe) and efficient interaction (Swords, Path, Silence) so you can both protect threats and assemble combos. Lean into infinite blink loops (Felidar Guardian + cost reducers) or a low-curve Voltron shell with protective equipment to push the power ceiling.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Voltron commander damage on a protected, equipped beater
  • ▸Combat with an army of reusable ETB value creatures
  • ▸Infinite blink/ETB loops translated into damage or mill
  • ▸Grinding opponents out with repeated ETB advantage until they run out of answers

Archetypes

  • Blink — Livio's exile-and-return turns ETB creatures into repeatable value engines.
  • Voltron — He can shield a single commander or beater from removal while it carries equipment and auras.
  • Combo — Blink loops with Felidar Guardian or infinite-ETB pieces can close games.
  • Aristocrats/Value — Mass-returning sacrificed or blinked creatures generates overwhelming card advantage.
