The Commander

Flying

Disappear — At the beginning of your end step, if a permanent left the battlefield under your control this turn, create a 1/1 black Insect Warrior creature token with flying.

{3}{G}, Sacrifice a token: Draw a card.

Guide

Gameplan

Lord Dregg turns any single permanent leaving your battlefield into a free 1/1 flying Insect each end step, so you build a wide, evasive board while sacrificing fodder for value. Early game you sac creatures, tokens, or even crack fetch lands to trigger Disappear, then convert the surplus tokens into cards with Dregg's draw ability. Close games by going wide with flyers, draining with aristocrats payoffs, or building a token-fueled engine.

Strengths

  • Flying evasion on both the commander and every token makes attacking and blocking reliable
  • Disappear only needs ONE permanent to leave per turn, so it's trivially easy to keep online
  • Built-in card advantage engine via the {3}{G} sacrifice-a-token draw ability
  • Deep synergy with sacrifice outlets, fetch lands, and aristocrats payoffs in BG
  • Tokens fuel both offense and the draw engine, giving you flexible board states

Weaknesses

  • Tokens are fragile 1/1s vulnerable to board wipes and sweepers like Pyroclasm
  • The draw ability is slow at {3}{G} per card and competes for mana with everything else
  • No built-in protection or ramp on the commander itself
  • Relies on a steady stream of permanents leaving play, which stalls if your fodder dries up
  • BG lacks counterspells and direct interaction against combo decks

Key Cards

  • Skullclamp — Turning Dregg's 1/1 tokens into two cards each is the best draw engine the deck can run.
  • Pitiless Plunderer — Every token or creature dying makes Treasure, fueling both Dregg's draw and your ramp.
  • Zulaport Cutthroat — Converts the constant stream of dying tokens into incremental life drain to close games.
  • Phyrexian Altar — A free sacrifice outlet that guarantees Disappear triggers and ramps for the draw ability.
  • Bitterblossom — A permanent leaving and a token entering pressure—reliable Disappear fuel every turn.
  • Ashnod's Altar — Free sac outlet plus mana that powers Dregg's draw and keeps Disappear active.

Upgrade Path

Add free sacrifice outlets (Phyrexian Altar, Ashnod's Altar, Viscera Seer) and token doublers like Anointed Procession to multiply Disappear output. Layer in aristocrats payoffs (Blood Artist, Bastion of Remembrance) and recursion (Meren of Clan Nel Toth, Eldritch Evolution) to create resilient value loops. Cut slow draw spells in favor of Skullclamp-style engines and efficient tutors like Demonic Tutor to find your payoffs faster.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Going wide with flying Insect tokens, pumped by an anthem or overrun effect
  • ▸Aristocrats drain via Blood Artist, Zulaport Cutthroat, and repeated sacrifice loops
  • ▸Grinding out card advantage with Dregg's draw and Skullclamp until you overwhelm
  • ▸Token combo loops with a free sac outlet and a recursion/payoff engine

Archetypes

  • Aristocrats — Sacrificing tokens triggers Disappear, drives drain payoffs, and refills with Dregg's draw.
  • Tokens — Disappear floods the board with flying Insects you can overrun or sacrifice for value.
  • Sacrifice Value — Every permanent leaving—including fetches and treasures—generates a flyer and engine fuel.
  • Go-Wide Aggro — A swarm of evasive flying tokens makes for fast, hard-to-block beatdowns.
