The Commander

First strike

Whenever Mirri attacks, each opponent can't block with more than one creature this combat.

As long as Mirri is tapped, no more than one creature can attack you each combat.

Guide

Gameplan

Mirri is a 3-mana GW Voltron/aggro commander who attacks safely while shutting down crowd-blocking, then plays defense the turn she's tapped by limiting each opponent to one attacker. Deploy cheap mana, suit up Mirri with auras and equipment, and swing through chip damage or commander damage while keeping the table from ganging up on you.

Strengths

  • First strike plus the one-blocker restriction makes her hard to profitably block, ideal for Voltron damage.
  • Built-in defensive tax: while tapped she only lets one creature attack you, deterring alpha strikes.
  • Cheap three-mana body in efficient GW colors with tons of protection and ramp.
  • Great political shield in multiplayer, making you a low-value attack target.

Weaknesses

  • Classic Voltron fragility: removal, board wipes, or bounce strand your invested cards.
  • No card advantage engine in the command zone, so you can run out of gas.
  • The defensive clause only protects if she stays tapped, leaving you open on your own turns.
  • Vulnerable to chump-blocking chains and fogs that blunt single-creature aggression.

Key Cards

  • Swiftfoot Boots — Hexproof and haste protect your Voltron investment and let Mirri swing immediately.
  • Shadowspear — Trample lets Mirri push damage through the lone allowed blocker and grants protection options.
  • Rancor — Recurring trample and power that survives removal, perfect for an aura-based Cat.
  • Skullclamp — Solves Mirri's card-advantage problem alongside cheap creatures and tokens.
  • Sword of Fire and Ice — Protection, evasion, and card draw all on one equipment makes Mirri lethal fast.
  • Sigarda's Aid — Flash in equipment at instant speed and auto-attach, enabling combat tricks and protection.

Upgrade Path

Lean harder into protective equipment (Swiftfoot Boots, Lightning Greaves, Sword of Feast and Famine) and instant-speed tricks so a single removal spell can't end your game. Add card-advantage engines like Skullclamp, Welcoming Vampire, or Sram, Senior Edificer to refuel, and tighten the curve with fast mana (Sol Ring, mana dorks) to deploy Mirri turn two. For higher power, splash extra-combat enablers and reliable evasion to convert her attack restriction into one-shot commander-damage kills.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Commander damage with an equipped/enchanted Mirri smashing through limited blockers.
  • ▸Go-wide token swarms that opponents can't block enough creatures against.
  • ▸Anthem-pumped combat damage closing out the table over a few turns.
  • ▸Evasive Voltron with protection swords finishing players one by one.

Archetypes

  • Voltron — Her unblockable-style attack restriction and first strike reward loading one creature with buffs.
  • Aggro/Stax-lite — The tapped clause taxes attacks back at you, supporting a low-to-the-ground beatdown plan.
  • Tokens/Go-wide — Limiting opponents to one blocker lets a wide GW board punch through profitably.
  • Hatebears — GW efficiency and her defensive text pair well with disruptive bears and tax pieces.
