BuildCard details

The Commander

{X}{X}{G}: Monstrosity X. (If this creature isn't monstrous, put X +1/+1 counters on it and it becomes monstrous.)

When Polukranos becomes monstrous, it deals X damage divided as you choose among any number of target creatures your opponents control. Each of those creatures deals damage equal to its power to Polukranos.

Guide

Gameplan

Polukranos is a mono-green beater that ramps hard, then dumps mana into Monstrosity to grow huge and sweep away opposing creatures via its fight-style ability. You win by establishing dominant board presence with ramp and big creatures, then closing with commander damage or overwhelming stompy attacks.

Strengths

  • Built-in board control via Monstrosity damage division
  • Cheap, recastable commander at 4 mana in mono-green ramp
  • Scales infinitely with mana, becoming a massive attacker
  • Mono-green gives access to the format's best ramp and big-creature payoffs

Weaknesses

  • Monstrosity is one-time only, so the activated removal can't be reused after it triggers
  • Mono-green struggles with flyers, card advantage spikes, and interaction at instant speed
  • Vulnerable to creature removal that wastes the mana you sank in
  • No evasion natively, so big attacks get chump-blocked

Key Cards

  • Doubling Cube — Lets you explosively double your mana to fuel a backbreaking Monstrosity X.
  • Heroic Intervention — Protects Polukranos and your board from wraths and targeted removal at a key moment.
  • Hardened Scales — Adds extra +1/+1 counters when Polukranos goes monstrous, making it bigger and cheaper to grow.
  • Ghostly Prison — Helps the durdly mono-green ramp deck survive while it sets up its big turn.
  • Greater Good — Turns your giant Hydra into a refill of cards, solving green's card-advantage problem.

Upgrade Path

Add counter-doublers like Doubling Season and Branching Evolution plus proliferate to make Monstrosity damage and combat lethal explosive. Lean into mana doublers (Mana Reflection, Vorinclex) and rituals to enable a turn where you both clear the board and swing. Trample enablers like Rancor or Berserkers' Onslaught and protection (Snakeskin Veil, Tyvar's Stand) push the Voltron plan to higher power.
