BuildCard details

The Commander

Trample

Primo enters with twice X +1/+1 counters on it.

Whenever one or more creatures you control with base power 0 deal combat damage to a player, create a 0/0 green and blue Fractal creature token. Put a number of +1/+1 counters on it equal to the damage dealt.

Guide

Gameplan

Cast Primo for as much X as possible to land a huge trampling threat, then build a board of base-power-0 creatures (especially Fractals) whose combat damage spawns more counter-loaded Fractals. You snowball counters and tokens turn over turn, eventually swinging for lethal trample or going wide with +1/+1 counter doublers.

Strengths

  • Self-contained value engine: your tokens make more tokens whenever base-0 creatures connect
  • Scales with X, so it stays relevant whether cast cheaply or as a finisher
  • Trample lets a counter-stacked Primo punch through chump blockers for commander damage
  • Loves classic GU counter and proliferate support that's deep and budget-friendly

Weaknesses

  • The token trigger only cares about base-power-0 creatures, a narrow build requirement
  • Relies on combat connecting, so blockers, fog effects, and removal slow it badly
  • Spot removal on Primo erases a big X investment for two-for-one tempo loss
  • No card advantage or protection built in—needs the deck to supply both

Key Cards

  • Doubling Season — Doubles Primo's entry counters and every Fractal's counters, turning the engine explosive.
  • Hardened Scales — Adds extra counters to every Fractal token, compounding combat damage and future triggers.
  • Branching Evolution — Doubles counters placed, dramatically enlarging Fractals and Primo on entry.
  • Inkmoth Nexus — A base-0 manland that lets you trigger the token-making ability and threaten infect/trample.
  • The Ozolith — Banks counters from dying base-0 creatures and dumps them onto Primo or fresh Fractals.
  • Fynn, the Fangbearer — Pairs with any deathtouch/infect base-0 attacker to turn combat damage into a poison clock alongside the token engine.

Upgrade Path

Add counter multipliers (Doubling Season, Branching Evolution, Hardened Scales) and proliferate engines to make Fractals oversized fast. Lean into evasion and protection—Lightning Greaves, Heroic Intervention, and trample anthems—so Primo survives and connects. For higher power, pivot toward an infect/Fynn package with deathtouch base-0 creatures and Inkmoth Nexus for a faster, more resilient clock.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Smash through with a massive trampling Primo for commander-damage kills
  • ▸Go wide with an army of counter-stacked Fractal tokens
  • ▸Convert deathtouch or infect base-0 attackers into a poison/Fynn kill
  • ▸Overrun-style anthem or trample finishers (e.g., Craterhoof Behemoth, Pathbreaker Ibex)

Archetypes

  • +1/+1 Counters — Primo natively generates and rewards counter accumulation through its enter trigger and Fractal tokens.
  • Tokens — Each connecting base-0 creature spawns another Fractal, snowballing a wide counter-loaded board.
  • Voltron — Trample plus piled-on counters lets a single Primo deal lethal commander damage.
  • Proliferate — Proliferate effects multiply every counter on Primo and the Fractals you keep producing.
