Frostboil Snarl

Land

LegalRank #344

As this land enters, you may reveal an Island or Mountain card from your hand. If you don't, this land enters tapped.

{T}: Add {U} or {R}.

Why is this card good?

Frostboil Snarl is a solid, unglamorous dual land for Izzet (UR) decks. The reveal mechanic means it can enter untapped early when you're still holding basics, which matters in a format where tempo and curve consistency win games. As your hand thins out in the late game it'll often enter tapped, but by then an extra tapped land rarely hurts. These "reveal lands" (the Snarls) are best in two-color decks with a healthy basic-land count — exactly the kind of focused Izzet spellslinger or artifact deck running plenty of Islands and Mountains. The more basics you run, the more reliably it's untapped. Don't bother in three-plus-color decks: if your manabase leans on fetches, shocks, and few true basics, you'll reveal nothing and it's just a tapland. In those builds, a check land or pain land serves you better. For a dedicated Izzet two-color deck, though, it's an easy, budget-friendly include.
