BuildCard details

The Commander

Backup 1 (When this creature enters, put a +1/+1 counter on target creature. If that's another creature, it gains the following ability until end of turn.)

Whenever this creature attacks, double the number of +1/+1 counters on target creature. That creature can't be blocked by creatures with power 2 or less this turn.

Guide

Gameplan

Bright-Palm is a Naya +1/+1 counters deck that loads up a single big threat and then doubles its counters on attack while making it nearly unblockable. Early turns build a counter engine and accelerate; mid-game you cast Bright-Palm, grant Backup to your best creature, and swing for doubling counters each combat. You close fast by snowballing one evasive monster into lethal damage or going wide with counter synergies.

Strengths

  • Exponential counter growth—doubling each attack snowballs out of control quickly
  • Built-in evasion (can't be blocked by power 2 or less) pushes damage through
  • Backup lets you protect against removal by shifting value to other creatures
  • Naya colors have the deepest counters and ramp toolbox in the format

Weaknesses

  • Heavily reliant on Bright-Palm or one creature surviving—vulnerable to spot removal and board wipes
  • Doubling zero counters does nothing, so you need an existing counter base
  • Larger creatures (power 3+) can still chump block the doubled threat
  • Can be glass-cannon and fold to fogs, edicts, or counter removal

Key Cards

  • Hardened Scales — Amplifies every counter you place before doubling, accelerating the snowball.
  • Branching Evolution — Doubles counters added, stacking multiplicatively with Bright-Palm's attack trigger.
  • The Ozolith — Banks all your accumulated counters if your creature dies, dodging removal blowouts.
  • Inkshield — Protects your big attacker and punishes removal while you push lethal.
  • Skullclamp — Refuels card advantage in a creature-heavy counters shell.

Upgrade Path

Add more counter doublers (Doubling Season, Innkeeper's Talent) and proliferate effects to make the doubling explosive, and include trample enablers like Rancor or Snake Umbra to ensure damage gets through. Tighten the mana base with Naya duals and fast ramp (Sol Ring, Three Visits) so Bright-Palm lands early, and run protection like Heroic Intervention and Teferi's Protection to defend your snowball from wipes.

Core Cards

  • Conclave Mentor
  • Bretagard Stronghold
  • Slurrk, All-Ingesting
  • Cinder Glade
  • Hindervines
  • Guardian Scalelord
  • Dromoka's Command
  • Temple of Triumph

  • Temple of Plenty
  • Restoration Angel
  • Strionic Resonator

Win Conditions

  • ▸Doubling counters on an unblockable threat to deal lethal combat or commander damage
  • ▸Going wide with counter payoffs and anthem effects for a big alpha strike
  • ▸Trample plus massive doubled creature to push through chump blockers

Archetypes

  • +1/+1 Counters — His doubling trigger and Backup make him the centerpiece of a counter-multiplication engine.
  • Voltron — Stacking and doubling counters onto one evasive creature delivers fast commander/voltron kills.
  • Aggro Midrange — Naya ramp plus snowballing threats lets you pressure the table early and often.
