The Commander

Vigilance (Attacking doesn't cause this creature to tap.)

At the beginning of combat on your turn, you may attach any number of Equipment you control to target creature you control.

Guide

Gameplan

Beatrix is a mono-white Equipment Voltron/aggro commander that lets you reattach any number of Equipment for free at the start of combat each turn, dodging equip costs entirely. You ramp into Equipment and creatures, then load up a hexproof or evasive carrier (or Beatrix herself with vigilance) to crash in for lethal commander or combat damage. Each turn you can shuffle your gear onto the best attacker, keeping equip-heavy boards mobile and threatening.

Strengths

  • Free reattachment sidesteps the format's biggest Equipment tax—equip costs—letting you wield expensive gear cheaply
  • Vigilance means she swings and still stays back to block, great as a Voltron carrier herself
  • Mono-white has deep access to Equipment tutors, anthem effects, and protection
  • Flexible turn-by-turn: move all your gear onto whichever creature is unblocked or protected

Weaknesses

  • Trigger only fires on your combat, so it does nothing defensively or at instant speed
  • Heavy reliance on a single carrier makes you vulnerable to spot removal and board wipes
  • Mono-white lacks card draw and ramp compared to other colors, leading to grindy hands
  • If Beatrix or your gear-stacked creature is answered, you lose tempo and value fast
  • Equipment-matters decks are slow to set up and weak to artifact destruction

Key Cards

  • Sword of Feast and Famine — Untaps your lands on combat damage and protects against black/green, enabling explosive double-spell turns.
  • Colossus Hammer — Turns any creature into a 10/10 trampler, and Beatrix attaches it for free, bypassing its absurd equip cost.
  • Puresteel Paladin — Gives free equip with metalcraft and draws cards whenever Equipment enters, fueling the engine.
  • Stoneforge Mystic — Tutors your best Equipment to hand and cheats it onto the battlefield.
  • Sigarda's Aid — Lets Equipment enter attached at flash speed, layering onto Beatrix's combat reattachment.
  • Swiftfoot Boots — Hexproof protects your gear-loaded carrier from the spot removal that otherwise blows you out.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana and ramp (Sol Ring, Mana Vault, Smothering Tithe) to outpace mono-white's slow start, and tutors like Open the Armory, Steelshaper's Gift, and Enlightened Tutor to find the right gear. Lean into protection (Swiftfoot Boots, Lightning Greaves, Mother of Runes) so your carrier survives, and include reach with evasion sources like Whispersilk Cloak or Rogue's Passage to guarantee damage gets through. For higher power, run the Stoneforge package plus Colossus Hammer for fast one-shot kills.

Core Cards

Win Conditions

  • ▸Commander damage from a heavily equipped, evasive carrier
  • ▸Wide go-aggressive board buffed by anthems and equipment swinging in
  • ▸Sword-suite triggers (Fire and Ice, Feast and Famine) generating overwhelming card and tempo advantage

Archetypes

  • Voltron — Stack multiple Equipment on one evasive, protected creature to deal lethal commander damage.
  • Equipment Aggro — Her free reattachment keeps a wide gear-heavy board mobile and constantly pressuring.
  • Hatebears/Stax-lite — Mono-white supports taxing creatures and Equipment that punish opponents while you build a threat.
