BuildCard details

The Commander

Whenever you scry, choose one and Glorfindel gets +1/+1 until end of turn.

• Glorfindel must be blocked this turn if able.

• Glorfindel can't be blocked by more than one creature each combat this turn.

Guide

Gameplan

Glorfindel is a mono-green scry-matters Voltron threat: each time you scry, he grows and gains evasion-by-choice, either forcing blocks or limiting blockers to slip through for big commander-damage hits. Build a deck packed with cheap, repeatable scry triggers, ramp into Glorfindel early, then suit him up and pile on scries each turn to swing for lethal commander damage. Filter your draws while turning every scry into a combat advantage.

Strengths

  • Repeatable scry triggers stack +1/+1 counters' worth of pumps plus evasion in the same turn
  • Cheap commander (3 mana) that filters and stabilizes your draws
  • Green's best-in-class ramp, trample, and protection make Voltron consistent
  • The 'can't be blocked by more than one creature' mode pairs perfectly with trample and double strike for commander-damage kills

Weaknesses

  • Pumps and evasion are only until end of turn, so removal resets everything
  • Mono-green struggles to interact with the stack and protect against board wipes
  • Reliant on actually having scry sources; without them he's a vanilla beater
  • Single-target spot removal or edicts can blunt the entire Voltron plan

Key Cards

  • Solemn Simulacrum — Ramp body that fixes draws, and any scry sources you add trigger Glorfindel for free.
  • Soul of Windgrace — Not green-only—skip; instead lean on scry engines.
  • Glaring Spotlight — Strips hexproof from blockers and can make Glorfindel unblockable for a guaranteed connection.
  • Rogue's Passage — Guarantees Glorfindel connects for commander damage when evasion modes aren't enough.
  • Shadowspear — Grants trample and lifelink so pumped damage carries through chump blocks.
  • The Great Henge — Massive ramp and card draw that snowballs once Glorfindel is big on the battlefield.

Upgrade Path

Maximize cheap, repeatable scry sources (e.g., scrylands, Mazemind Tome, Pull from Tomorrow-style filtering) so you can pump him multiple times per turn, then add protection like Heroic Intervention, Snakeskin Veil, and Robe of the Archmagi to dodge removal. Tighten the equipment/aura package toward trample and double strike (Berserkers' Onslaught, Fireshrieker effects) for one-shot commander kills, and round out with top-tier ramp like Sol Ring, Carpet of Flowers, and The Great Henge to deploy threats ahead of curve.

  • ▸Overrun-style alpha strikes with Glorfindel leading the charge

Archetypes

  • Voltron — His pump and evasion modes turn him into a fast commander-damage clock with auras and equipment.
  • Scry-matters / Card Selection — Every scry trigger pumps him, rewarding a critical mass of cheap repeatable scry sources.
  • Stompy Midrange — Green ramp into big trampling threats backed by Glorfindel as a resilient secondary beater.
