BuildCard details

The Commander

When Iname dies, you may exile it. If you do, return any number of target Spirit cards from your graveyard to your hand.

Guide

Gameplan

Build a mono-green Spirit tribal deck that floods the board with Spirit creatures and grinds value out of the graveyard. Iname acts as recursion insurance: when it dies you exile it to return a pile of Spirits to your hand, so you never run out of gas. You win by going wide with Spirits backed by green ramp and overrun effects.

Strengths

  • Built-in recursion that refills your hand and protects against board wipes
  • Mono-green consistency with strong ramp and minimal mana issues
  • Spirit tribal payoffs and a deep pool of green Spirits to support a go-wide plan
  • Cheap to assemble; few expensive staples required

Weaknesses

  • Mono-green struggles with interaction, lacking counterspells and targeted removal
  • Recursion only triggers on death and only returns Spirits, so the ability is narrow
  • Slow to close games without a dedicated finisher like an overrun
  • Vulnerable to graveyard hate that shuts off Iname's payoff and Spirit reanimation

Key Cards

  • Kodama of the East Tree — A green Spirit that chains additional permanents into play, snowballing your Spirit board for free.
  • Patron of the Moon — A Spirit that lets you tuck and replay lands, fueling ramp while staying on-theme.
  • Craterhoof Behemoth — The premier go-wide finisher that turns your swarm of Spirits into lethal damage.
  • Door of Destinies — Snowballs every Spirit you cast into a larger and larger threat.
  • Greater Good — Sacrifices your big Spirits for cards and feeds Iname's graveyard-return engine.

Upgrade Path

Add more efficient green ramp (Sol Ring, Rampant Growth, Cultivate) and tutors like Time of Need to find your best Spirits and finishers faster. Lean into sacrifice outlets such as Greater Good and Ashnod's Altar so you can deliberately trigger Iname's recursion, and include protection like Heroic Intervention to survive wraths. Top it off with a second overrun and a token doubler such as Doubling Season to make the go-wide plan more explosive.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Overrun finishers like Craterhoof Behemoth or Overwhelming Stampede with a wide Spirit board
  • ▸Repeated value attrition out-grinding opponents after they exhaust removal
  • ▸Beating down with anthem-pumped Spirits via Door of Destinies and similar effects

Archetypes

  • Spirit Tribal — Iname rewards loading the deck with Spirits and recurring them after wipes.
  • Tokens / Go-Wide — Spirit token makers plus green overrun effects close games through sheer numbers.
  • Graveyard Value — Iname's exile-to-return ability turns the graveyard into a recurring resource for your tribe.
