BuildCard details

The Commander

Trample

When Iwamori enters, each opponent may put a legendary creature card from their hand onto the battlefield.

Guide

Gameplan

Iwamori is a mono-green beater that comes down as a 5/4 trample for four mana, applying early pressure while you build a board. The symmetrical legend-cheating drawback is mostly upside in casual pods or can be weaponized to deal with the opponents' dumped legends, but the real plan is leveraging green's ramp, big creatures, and combat to overwhelm before opponents stabilize. You ramp aggressively, deploy threats, and close with stompy beats or a green combo/big-mana payoff.

Strengths

  • Cheap, efficient body with trample that's a real clock at 5/4 for four
  • Mono-green gives access to the best ramp and the biggest creatures in the format
  • Recastable threat that pressures life totals and demands removal
  • Flexible build: works in stompy, +1/+1 counters, or big-mana shells

Weaknesses

  • The ETR ability is symmetrical and can hand opponents a free legendary creature
  • Mono-green struggles with interaction, card draw is creature/enchantment-based, and no access to removal for noncreatures
  • Vulnerable to board wipes that erase your ramp and threats
  • Not inherently a combo engine—relies on raw stats which fall behind dedicated value engines

Key Cards

  • Sol Ring — Explosive ramp that lets Iwamori and follow-up threats land ahead of schedule.
  • Cultivate — Fixes and ramps to keep the curve climbing toward big payoffs.
  • Beast Within — Mono-green's premier catch-all removal to answer the legends opponents may dump or anything else.
  • Craterhoof Behemoth — Turns a wide or tall green board into a one-shot kill alongside Iwamori's trample.
  • Heroic Intervention — Protects your board from wipes and targeted removal, crucial in a creature-heavy deck.
  • Asceticism — Gives your threats hexproof and regeneration, hardening the stompy game plan.

Upgrade Path

Tighten the ramp suite (Sol Ring, mana dorks, Three Visits/Nature's Lore) so Iwamori lands turn three and threats snowball; add protection like Heroic Intervention and Lightning Greaves to keep your board alive through wipes. Add reliable finishers (Craterhoof Behemoth, Triumph of the Hordes) and consider weaponizing the ETR drawback with removal or sacrifice effects rather than playing into it blindly.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Overrun effects like Craterhoof Behemoth or Overwhelming Stampede for a single big alpha strike
  • ▸Repeated commander damage with trample and pump/equipment
  • ▸Resolving a green ramp payoff (e.g., a massive X-creature or token swarm) and crashing in

Archetypes

  • Stompy / Big Green — A cheap trampler that headlines a curve of ramp into oversized beaters.
  • +1/+1 Counters — Iwamori's body and trample reward counter synergies and anthem effects.
  • Voltron — Trample plus green's protection and pump make Iwamori a viable commander-damage carrier.
  • Hatebears/Punisher — The symmetrical legend drop can be turned into removal fodder or used with effects that punish opponents' creatures.
