The Commander

{T}: Exile the top card of your library. If it's a land card, put it into your hand. Otherwise, put a study counter on it.

{4}{G}: Create a 0/0 green and blue Fractal creature token. Put a +1/+1 counter on it for each different mana value among nonland cards you own in exile with study counters on them.

Flying

{X}{U}{U}, {T}: Exile the top X cards of your library and put a study counter on each of them. Then you may put a card you own in exile with a study counter on it into your hand.

Guide

Gameplan

Kianne grinds card advantage by exiling your library's top card each turn—lands go straight to hand, nonlands stockpile study counters. You either flip to the cheap front side to churn ramp/value early, or play the expensive Imbraham back side to dig deep and recur impactful spells. The deck wins by snowballing card advantage into a giant Fractal token or a big mana value-fueled payoff.

Strengths

  • Built-in repeatable card advantage from both sides with no card investment
  • Color identity (GU) gives access to the best ramp, draw, and counterspells
  • Front side is a cheap 3-mana ramp/Fractal engine; back side is a powerful late-game card-selection machine
  • Exiled study cards can be retrieved, so value isn't lost

Weaknesses

  • Both sides are fragile creatures that die to any removal and reset slowly
  • Fractal token production requires diverse mana values and is mana-intensive (4G plus tapping)
  • No inherent way to protect itself or close the game without supporting payoffs
  • Imbraham's X ability is greedy and mana-hungry, vulnerable to graveyard/exile-hate disruption

Key Cards

  • Doubling Season — Doubles the +1/+1 counters on your Fractals, making a single token a lethal threat.
  • Hardened Scales — Cheaply pumps each Fractal you create, stretching counter value across the game.
  • Cultivate — Ramps and fixes so you can afford Imbraham's costly back-side activations and the 4G Fractal ability.
  • Lithoform Engine — Copies Kianne or Imbraham's activated abilities for double the exile and counter generation.
  • Inspiring Statuary — Improvise turns your wide-but-counter-heavy board into mana for the expensive activations.
  • Heroic Intervention — Protects your commander and Fractals from board wipes and targeted removal at instant speed.

Upgrade Path

Add counter payoffs like Doubling Season, Hardened Scales, and proliferate effects (Evolution Sage, Inexorable Tide) to make Fractals lethal, plus protection (Heroic Intervention, Lightning Greaves) so your commander survives. Lean into fast ramp (Sol Ring, Three Visits) to enable Imbraham's expensive draws and consider a backup combo or big finisher like Craterhoof Behemoth or Finale of Devastation to actually close games.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸A single massive Fractal token buffed by counter doublers swinging for lethal commander damage
  • ▸Overwhelming card advantage converting into a grindy value lock with counterspells
  • ▸Proliferate and counter synergies producing a wide, hard-to-block board

Archetypes

  • +1/+1 Counters — Fractal tokens scale directly off counter doublers and proliferate effects for huge threats.
  • Value/Card Advantage — Both halves continuously refill your hand and dig your library for engine pieces.
  • Spellslinger — Diverse mana values among exiled cards reward a varied spell suite that also feeds counters.
  • Ramp/Big Mana — Imbraham's X ability and the 4G Fractal cost love mana acceleration to go bigger faster.
