The Commander

Whenever Ludevic enters or attacks, mill a card.

{X}{U}{U}{B}{B}, Exile X creature cards from your graveyard: Transform Ludevic. X can't be 0. Activate only as a sorcery.

As this creature transforms into Olag, Ludevic's Hubris, it becomes a copy of a creature card exiled with it, except its name is Olag, Ludevic's Hubris, it's 4/4, and it's a legendary blue and black Zombie in addition to its other colors and types. Put a number of +1/+1 counters on Olag equal to the number of creature cards exiled with it.

Guide

Gameplan

Ludevic enters and attacks to fill your graveyard, then you transform him into Olag by exiling creature cards to become a copy of your biggest bomb—now a 4/4 base with +1/+1 counters equal to all creatures exiled. You're a self-mill clone-Voltron deck that turns a dead yard into a giant evasive threat, ideally one with a game-ending ability when it lands.

Strengths

  • Two-mana commander that self-mills every turn, building fuel for reanimation and the transform ability without extra investment.
  • Olag can copy your strongest creature while adding counters, making one resilient, hard-to-answer body that scales with graveyard size.
  • Self-mill synergizes with reanimation, delve, escape, and graveyard-matters payoffs you're already running.
  • Color identity gives access to the best card draw, removal, and tutors in the format.

Weaknesses

  • The transform requires {X}{U}{U}{B}{B} plus exiling creatures, so it's mana-hungry and exiles your reanimation targets.
  • Heavily graveyard-dependent—Bojuka Bog, Rest in Peace, and Leyline of the Void hose your whole plan.
  • Olag is still a single creature vulnerable to removal, and recasting/retransforming is expensive.
  • Mill helps you but also can deck you out or feed opponents' graveyard strategies.

Key Cards

  • Consecrated Sphinx — A great Olag copy target whose card-advantage ability makes a 4/4-plus body snowball the game.
  • Gray Merchant of Asphodel — Copying it as Olag triggers a massive devotion-based life drain on transform.
  • Sheoldred, the Apocalypse — An ideal clone target that punishes opponents' draws while your mill keeps the yard stocked.
  • Reanimate — Cheap reanimation lets you put milled bombs onto the battlefield instead of only copying them.
  • Altar of Dementia — Sacrifices and mills to load your graveyard fast while doubling as a sacrifice outlet.
  • Cyclonic Rift — Premier blue interaction that protects Olag and clears blockers for the finishing swing.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana (Sol Ring, signets, Dark Ritual) and graveyard-stocking like Stitcher's Supplier, Buried Alive, and Entomb so you transform earlier with bigger targets. Lean into a tight package of clone-worthy bombs and protect Olag with counterspells, regeneration, or hexproof equipment. For higher power, add reanimation combos and a Thassa's Oracle/Laboratory Maniac line to exploit your self-mill as an alternate win.
