BuildCard details

The Commander

{2}{W}{W}, {T}, Discard two cards: Destroy all creatures except for Mageta. Those creatures can't be regenerated.

Guide

Gameplan

Mageta is a repeatable, asymmetric board wipe on a stick: tap, pay {2}{W}{W}, and discard two cards to destroy everything but Mageta. Build a stax/control shell that keeps your own board light, fuels Mageta's discard with card advantage and graveyard payoffs, then grind opponents out before closing with a protected threat or alternate win.

Strengths

  • Repeatable asymmetric wrath that leaves Mageta and your noncreature pieces intact
  • Punishes creature-heavy/aristocrat metas and resets aggro every turn
  • Discard cost turns into an advantage with reanimation and discard-matters payoffs
  • Mono-white gives access to the format's best stax, taxes, and recursion

Weaknesses

  • Five mana commander that needs to untap before doing anything, and is easy to remove in response
  • Heavy white card disadvantage—discarding two cards per activation is brutal without engines
  • Does nothing against artifacts, enchantments, planeswalkers, or noncreature combo
  • Slow clock; you can lock the board but struggle to actually close the game

Key Cards

  • Land Tax — Refills your hand so you always have two cards to discard to Mageta.
  • Smothering Tithe — Generates the heavy white mana needed to wrath every turn.
  • Sun Titan — Recurs the permanents and enchantments your loop relies on after each board state.
  • Containment Priest — Stops opponents from cheating creatures back faster than you can wipe them.
  • Reveillark — Banks value creatures to discard to Mageta and returns them later.
  • Faith's Reward — Lets you wipe the board and snap your own permanents back for a one-sided reset.

Upgrade Path

Lean into card-advantage engines (Esper Sentinel, Mangara, Archivist of Oghma) so discarding two cards never strands you, and add flicker/recursion (Sun Titan, Faith's Reward, Teferi's Protection) to make wipes one-sided. Add fast mana and rocks (Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, Smothering Tithe) to wrath repeatedly, then tighten the kill with a compact wincon like Approach of the Second Sun or a Helm of the Host on a value creature.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Grind opponents to empty boards and beat down with a single resilient threat or Mageta
  • ▸Equip a wiped-clean Mageta with evasion/voltron gear for commander damage
  • ▸Land an alternate wincon like Approach of the Second Sun or Felidar Sovereign under the lock
  • ▸Reanimate a haymaker after a wipe to close while opponents are creatureless

Archetypes

  • Stax / Control — Repeatable wrath plus white taxes and resource denial locks opponents out of the board.
  • Hatebears — Cheap disruptive bodies survive your own wipe far better than opponents' developed boards.
  • Reanimator — The two-card discard cost fuels recursion targets you bring back for value or as finishers.
  • Pillowfort Voltron — Protect Mageta with equipment and fog effects, then beat down once the board is empty.
