Cumulative upkeep—Pay 1 life. (At the beginning of your upkeep, put an age counter on this permanent, then sacrifice it unless you pay its upkeep cost for each age counter on it.)
Morinfen is a mono-black 5-mana 6/4 flier with a life-payment cumulative upkeep, so it's really just a beater and color-identity peg for a mono-black goodstuff deck. You play it as an evasive threat that nibbles your life total while you grind opponents out with removal, card advantage from black's deep toolbox, and a finisher that doesn't rely on the commander itself.
Add fast mana and ramp (Sol Ring, Mana Vault, Cabal Coffers, Nykthos) so you can both deploy threats and easily afford the upkeep, plus tutors (Demonic Tutor, Vampiric Tutor) to find your win pieces. Lean into a defined finisher—Gray Merchant devotion, an Exsanguinate/Torment of Hailfire X-spell, or a reanimation combo—rather than relying on the commander. Round out with strong interaction (Toxic Deluge, Bojuka Bog, Damnation) and lifegain to keep the cumulative-upkeep clock from killing you first.
