BuildCard details

The Commander

Each creature card in your graveyard has unearth {2}{B}. ({2}{B}: Return the card to the battlefield. The creature gains haste. Exile it at the beginning of the next end step or if it would leave the battlefield. Unearth only as a sorcery.)

Guide

Gameplan

Sedris turns your graveyard into a reusable toolbox: dump big creatures, then unearth them for {2}{B} to swing for value or trigger ETBs/attack-triggers before they exile at end of step. You ramp into Sedris, fill the yard with looting and self-mill, and chain unearths into either incremental advantage or an explosive combo turn that ends the game.

Strengths

  • Recursion-on-demand makes every creature in your yard a haste threat with a free ETB/attack trigger
  • Grixis gives access to elite card draw, tutors, and interaction
  • Strong synergy with sacrifice and blink to make unearth bodies permanent
  • Graveyard fuel is cheap and resilient via loot/mill

Weaknesses

  • Sedris is a 6-mana enabler that does nothing the turn it dies and invites removal
  • Graveyard hate (Rest in Peace, Bojuka Bog) shuts the deck off entirely
  • No green means ramp and recovery are clunkier
  • Unearthed creatures exile if not saved, so without sac/flicker outlets you only rent them

Key Cards

  • Gray Merchant of Asphodel — Unearth it repeatedly for massive devotion-based drain that can close games out of nowhere.
  • Buried Alive — Tutors three creatures straight into the graveyard to set up Sedris's unearth engine.
  • Sneak Attack — Doubles as another way to cheat haste bodies in, pairing with the unearth gameplan.
  • Phyrexian Reclamation — Buys back creatures from the yard so you can recur your best unearth targets indefinitely.
  • Worldgorger Dragon — With Animate Dead-style enchantments it forms an infinite mana/ETB loop in Sedris's colors.
  • Corpse Connoisseur — Itself unearthable and tutors creatures to the graveyard for value.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana (Dark Ritual, Jeweled Lotus, signets) and reanimation backups like Reanimate, Animate Dead, and Necromancy to deploy threats before Sedris. Tighten the combo line with Worldgorger Dragon plus Animate Dead and a payoff, and include sac outlets (Viscera Seer, Ashnod's Altar) and flicker (Ephemerate) to convert rented creatures into permanent value. Round out with graveyard protection and efficient interaction to survive the inevitable hate.

  • ▸Worldgorger Dragon infinite combo for unlimited mana into a finisher

Archetypes

  • Aristocrats — Sacrifice unearthed creatures before exile to convert rented bodies into drain and value.
  • Combo — Worldgorger Dragon and ETB-loop creatures assemble infinite mana or damage with Sedris's recursion.
