The Commander

Brave Heart — Whenever you attack, target attacking historic creature gets +1/+1 and gains indestructible until end of turn. (Artifacts, legendaries, and Sagas are historic.)

Doctor's companion (You can have two commanders if the other is the Doctor.)

Guide

Gameplan

Tegan is a Doctor's companion, so she's almost always paired with a Doctor partner to unlock more colors and a focused gameplan. On her own she's a white attack-trigger engine: each combat she pumps a historic (artifact/legendary/Saga) attacker +1/+1 and grants indestructible, letting you swing into blocks and board wipes freely. Build around legendary/artifact creatures and equipment to push consistent, protected damage.

Strengths

  • Free indestructible every combat protects your best attacker from blocks, removal, and combat tricks
  • Cheap 3-mana body that triggers on attack, not on combat damage, so it works even through chump blocks
  • Doctor's companion flexibility lets you choose a partner that defines colors and power level
  • Synergizes naturally with the legends-matter and artifact themes white is full of

Weaknesses

  • Only protects one attacker per turn, so go-wide or token strategies get less mileage
  • Effect requires nontoken historic creatures to maximize value—random tokens often don't qualify
  • Mono-white alone is light on card advantage and interaction without a partner
  • Indestructible doesn't stop exile, -X/-X, bounce, or sacrifice effects
  • Telegraphs your key attacker, inviting non-destruction removal in response

Key Cards

  • Skullclamp — White's chronic card-draw problem; Skullclamp keeps your hand full to fuel a legends/artifact board.
  • Swiftfoot Boots — Hexproof plus haste covers the exile/targeted-removal gap Tegan's indestructible leaves open.
  • Sword of Fire and Ice — Equipment turns a protected historic attacker into a card-advantage and damage powerhouse each swing.
  • Smothering Tithe — The premier white ramp/advantage engine to keep pace in multiplayer pods.
  • Sram, Senior Edificer — Draws cards off equipment and Auras while being a legendary historic creature Tegan loves to buff.
  • Heroic Intervention — Backs up Tegan's single-target indestructible with a team-wide protection effect against wraths.

Upgrade Path

Pick a strong Doctor partner to add colors and an engine—blue Doctors give card draw and protection, multicolor ones add removal and ramp. Lean into efficient equipment (the Swords, Lightning Greaves), hexproof sources, and legendary creatures to maximize Brave Heart triggers, then add fast mana like Sol Ring and Smothering Tithe plus tutors (Stoneforge Mystic, Steelshaper's Gift) to assemble your protected threat faster and more reliably.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Commander damage from a buffed, indestructible legendary or equipped attacker
  • ▸Connecting repeatedly with Sword-style equipment to grind out value and damage
  • ▸Going tall with a Voltron threat that survives wraths to close games
  • ▸Leveraging a Doctor partner's strategy alongside Tegan's protected attacks

Archetypes

  • Voltron — Indestructible plus +1/+1 each attack makes a single legendary or equipped creature a safe, recurring threat for commander damage.
  • Legends/Artifacts Matter — Brave Heart specifically rewards historic creatures, so a deck of legends and artifact creatures gets the most triggers.
  • Equipment Aggro — Boots/Swords and other gear stack onto an indestructible attacker for fast, protected beatdown.
  • Doctor Partner Midrange — Pairing with a Doctor opens additional colors to add removal, card draw, and a co-commander win plan.
