BuildCard details

The Commander

Ward—Pay 3 life.

Whenever The Meep attacks, you may sacrifice another creature. If you do, creatures you control have base power and toughness X/X until end of turn, where X is the sacrificed creature's mana value.

Guide

Gameplan

Flood the board with cheap creatures and tokens, then swing with The Meep and sacrifice a high-mana-value creature so your whole army becomes a base X/X equal to that creature's mana value. The plan is to assemble a wide board, then in one attack turn the sacrifice trigger turns a swarm of 1/1s into a lethal wall of 6/6s, 8/8s, or bigger. Reanimation and recursion let you reuse fat creatures as repeatable fuel for the buff.

Strengths

  • Turns go-wide token strategies into one-shot kills by mass-pumping every creature to a high base stat
  • Mono-black gives best-in-class tutors, reanimation, and card draw to find both the bodies and the fodder
  • Ward—Pay 3 life makes The Meep resilient to single-target removal
  • Cheap to recast at three mana and acts as its own anthem effect repeatedly

Weaknesses

  • The buff sets BASE power/toughness, so it can shrink your own large creatures and overwrites other anthems poorly
  • Entirely dependent on connecting in combat—board wipes or a strong blocker turn off the whole plan
  • Needs both a wide board and a high-MV sacrifice on the same turn, so it can be clunky and slow
  • Mono-black struggles with enchantment/artifact removal and flying defense

Key Cards

  • Bitterblossom — Generates a steady stream of token bodies that all become massive when The Meep attacks.
  • Skullclamp — Converts your expendable 1/1 tokens into a relentless card-draw engine that refills the board.
  • Reanimate — Cheaply returns a huge mana-value creature to the battlefield to serve as premium sacrifice fuel.
  • Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder — Floods the board with Thrull tokens, perfectly setting up an alpha strike of buffed creatures.
  • Ashnod's Altar — Lets you crack tokens for mana and combos with attack triggers, though note the buff sac is built in.
  • Razaketh, the Foulblooded — A high-MV body that tutors on sacrifice and makes every creature a giant when fed to The Meep.

Upgrade Path

Lower your curve with efficient token engines (Bitterblossom, Ophiomancer, Pawn of Ulamog) and add free or cheap reanimation (Animate Dead, Necromancy) to recycle heavy hitters as fuel. Tighten the kill with anthem and evasion enablers plus aristocrats payoffs like Blood Artist and Zulaport Cutthroat so combat damage isn't your only out. Top-end upgrades include fast mana (Dark Ritual, Jet Medallion), Demonic/Vampiric Tutor to find Skullclamp, and a high-MV reanimation target like Griselbrand for maximum X.

Core Cards

Win Conditions

  • ▸Alpha strike with a wide board of buffed X/X creatures after sacrificing a high-MV body
  • ▸Aristocrats drain via Blood Artist/Bastion of Remembrance as tokens die to sac and combat
  • ▸Repeated reanimation of big creatures to pump and swing across multiple turns

Archetypes

  • Tokens — Wide boards of cheap creatures get transformed into a lethal army by the attack-trigger buff.
  • Aristocrats — The sacrifice trigger pairs naturally with death payoffs, drain effects, and recursion engines.
  • Reanimator — Returning fat, high-mana-value creatures gives you both blockers and ideal sacrifice fodder for big X/X buffs.
  • Voltron-lite Beatdown — Even a small board becomes a fast clock once everything shares a large base power.
