BuildCard details

The Commander

This spell costs {3} less to cast for each other spell cast this turn.

Trample, haste

Trample over planeswalkers (This creature can deal excess combat damage to the controller of the planeswalker it's attacking.)

Thrasta has hexproof as long as it entered this turn.

Guide

Gameplan

Cast a flurry of cheap spells to make Thrasta nearly free, then swing for 10 trampling haste damage the turn it lands while it's protected by hexproof. As a mono-green storm-adjacent beater, you chain rituals and cantrips to deploy Thrasta repeatedly and pump it to lethal commander-damage range in one or two attacks.

Strengths

  • Hexproof on entry makes it nearly impossible to remove before combat, surviving spot removal
  • Haste plus trample means immediate, hard-to-chump damage every time it lands
  • Mono-green gives cheap, consistent ramp and recursion
  • Cost reduction can make a 12-mana 10/10 cost almost nothing in a spell-heavy turn

Weaknesses

  • Hexproof only lasts the turn it enters, so it dies to sorcery-speed wipes and removal on later turns
  • Needs 21 commander damage or repeated big swings—one body is fragile to fogs and blockers
  • Mono-green lacks card draw and interaction to protect a developing board
  • Color identity locks you out of free counterspell-bait spells from other colors that fuel cost reduction

Key Cards

  • Cathars' Crusade — Each spell/creature deployed before Thrasta stacks +1/+1 counters, turning it into a one-shot kill.
  • Berserk — Doubles Thrasta's power and forces lethal trample, often killing in a single swing.
  • Rishkar's Expertise — Drawing off a huge Thrasta refuels your hand and the free cast can chain another threat.
  • Concordant Crossroads — Grants haste to everything so recast Thrasta and your beaters always attack immediately.
  • Heroic Intervention — Backup protection for the turns Thrasta's hexproof has expired.
  • Burgeoning — Explosive early ramp lets you cast multiple spells per turn to slash Thrasta's cost.

Upgrade Path

Lean harder into cheap cantrips and rituals (Manamorphose-style green spells, Gaea's Will, Wild Growth) to reliably zero out Thrasta's cost, then add power doublers and one-shot enablers like Berserk, Rancor, and trample-doublers. Improve protection density with Heroic Intervention, Tyvar's Stand, and Snakeskin Veil for post-entry turns, and tighten ramp with Carpet of Flowers and Nature's Lore so you can chain casts every turn.

Core Cards

Win Conditions

  • ▸Connecting with a pumped Thrasta for 21 commander damage over one or two swings
  • ▸One-shot kills via Berserk or doublers like Xenagos effects on a trampling Thrasta
  • ▸Overrun-style alpha strikes when Thrasta is backed by a token or creature board

Archetypes

  • Voltron — Hexproof, trample, and haste make Thrasta an ideal carrier for pump and commander-damage kills.
  • Storm/Spellslinger — Casting many cheap spells each turn both reduces Thrasta's cost and triggers payoffs.
  • Stompy/Big Mana — Green ramp lets you recast and pump a hexproof haste beater faster than opponents can answer.
