Guide

Gameplan

Trostani, Three Whispers is a combat-centric Selesnya commander who repeatedly pumps your creatures with deathtouch, vigilance, and especially double strike, turning a single big threat into a lethal attacker while keeping defenders back. Develop ramp and mana dorks early, deploy a resilient beater or token engine, then use her activated abilities each turn to push damage, force bad blocks, and protect your board. The double strike ability is the centerpiece, doubling combat damage and powering one-shot kills or trample beatdown.

Strengths

  • Repeatable, mana-sink keyword granting that scales into the late game with no card investment
  • Double strike turns any large or trample creature into a commander-damage or one-shot threat
  • Vigilance lets you attack and still hold up blockers, ideal for go-wide token boards
  • Deathtouch on a single attacker creates devastating blocks and combo kills with high-power creatures
  • Cheap three-mana body in the format's best ramp colors, easy to recast

Weaknesses

  • No inherent card advantage or recovery from board wipes
  • Abilities target one creature at a time (except via copy effects), so she's mana-hungry and can be slow against go-wide boards
  • Relies on having a strong creature already in play to convert mana into damage
  • GW lacks strong interaction and struggles versus combo and control
  • Removal-magnet commander whose abilities do nothing if she or your threat is dealt with

Key Cards

  • Rampaging Baloths — Generates beasts off landfall to give Trostani a steady stream of targets to pump with double strike.
  • Pathbreaker Ibex — Overrun-on-a-stick that, combined with double strike, makes go-wide alpha strikes lethal.
  • Craterhoof Behemoth — Adds trample and massive power, and double strike turns it into instant table-ending damage.
  • Sword of Fire and Ice — Cheap equipment that stacks with her keywords for protection, evasion, and card draw on connection.
  • Smothering Tithe — Premier white ramp that fuels her mana-intensive activated abilities across a long game.
  • Heroic Intervention — Protects your board and pumped attacker from removal and wraths at instant speed.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana and ramp (Sol Ring, Birds of Paradise, Smothering Tithe) so you can both deploy threats and hold up her abilities the same turn. Prioritize trample enablers and Overrun effects—Pathbreaker Ibex, Craterhoof Behemoth, Beastmaster Ascension—plus protection like Heroic Intervention and Teferi's Protection to survive wipes. To raise the ceiling, lean into a compact Voltron package with evasive equipment and a few tutors so you can reliably set up a one-shot double-strike kill before slower tables stabilize.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Commander or creature damage via double strike on a large, evasive threat
  • ▸Alpha strike with Overrun effects like Pathbreaker Ibex or Craterhoof Behemoth backed by double strike
  • ▸Voltron beatdown with equipment/auras and deathtouch making blocks suicidal
  • ▸Grinding token armies wide while keeping vigilant defenders back

Archetypes

  • Voltron — Double strike plus deathtouch and vigilance makes a single equipped or enchanted creature a fast commander-damage kill.
  • Go-Wide Tokens — Vigilance keeps blockers home while anthems and Overrun effects close, and she pumps a key threat each combat.
  • +1/+1 Counters — Big counter-laden creatures combine with double strike to deal enormous, often lethal, combat damage.
  • Stompy Midrange — Ramp into fatties and let Trostani grant trample-synergy keywords to bash through blockers.
