Why is this card good?
Karplusan Forest is a "painland" — a reliable, untapped dual that fixes both your colors immediately, which is exactly what fast Gruul decks crave. The single point of damage is trivial in a 40-life-each format, and you can always tap it for colorless when you don't need a color, dodging the pain entirely.
Its real value is that it enters untapped on turn one and every turn after, with no conditions. That speed matters in aggressive Gruul builds, dragon decks, landfall/Omnath, and any midrange RG list wanting consistent early plays. It's a staple in the painland cycle along"filter," "fast," and "Horizon" lands.
When NOT to play it: heavily tapped-out manabases don't care, and if your deck wants more than two colors, this only covers RG. In slower, durdly decks where untapped speed is irrelevant, a guaranteed-untapped tapland or a fetchable shock/dual may serve better. Also skip it if you're running a punishing pain-payoff... actually, those decks usually love it.
