BuildCard details

The Commander

Changeling (This card is every creature type.)

As Morophon enters, choose a creature type.

Spells of the chosen type you cast cost {W}{U}{B}{R}{G} less to cast. This effect reduces only the amount of colored mana you pay.

Other creatures you control of the chosen type get +1/+1.

Guide

Gameplan

Pick a creature type as Morophon enters, then flood the board with that tribe at a steep discount while every member gets a buff. You build a wide, synergistic creature army backed by tribal lords and payoffs, then close games through combat or a tribal combo. Morophon's five-color identity lets you splash the best support spells from any color for your chosen creature type.

Strengths

  • WUBRG color identity unlocks every tribal payoff and removal/ramp option in the format
  • Massive cost reduction makes expensive tribal threats and your own changelings cheap to deploy
  • Anthem effect plus stacked lords can make an army lethal quickly
  • Changeling means Morophon counts as any tribe, supporting flexible tribal shells

Weaknesses

  • Seven mana commander is slow; you often need ramp to get going
  • Color reduction only helps colored pips, so heavy generic costs still hurt
  • Board wipes are devastating to a creature-dense, go-wide plan
  • Without Morophon out, the deck can be a pile of medium tribal creatures

Key Cards

  • Morophon, the Boundless — The engine itself, providing the cost discount and anthem that defines the deck.
  • Cryptic Trilobite — Pure changeling ramp that benefits from the chosen type and accelerates toward Morophon.
  • Maskwood Nexus — Turns all your creatures into every type, so the chosen-type buff and discount apply universally.
  • Herald's Horn — Reduces tribal creature costs and digs for more, stacking with Morophon's discount.
  • Vanquisher's Banner — Refills your hand each time you cast a creature of the chosen type and adds an anthem.
  • Cavern of Souls — Fixes mana and makes your key tribal threats uncounterable across five colors.

Upgrade Path

Commit hard to one tribe (Elves, Goblins, Dragons, Slivers, or all-changeling) and load up on its best lords and payoffs, then add fast mana and ramp (Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, Cryptic Trilobite) to deploy Morophon ahead of schedule. Improve mana fixing with fetch/dual lands and Cavern of Souls, and add resilience like Heroic Intervention plus a haymaker finisher such as Craterhoof Behemoth. Tutors like Fierce Empath or tribal-specific search smooth out consistency for the higher-power builds.

Archetypes

  • Tribal Aggro — Cheap discounted creatures plus the +1/+1 anthem and tribal lords power out a lethal board.
  • Changeling Tribal — Changelings count as the chosen type, letting you run a flexible all-types shell with universal lords.
  • Tokens — Token makers like maskwood effects flood the board with chosen-type bodies that all get buffed.
  • Combo — Five colors give access to tribal combos and infinite engines tied to creature synergies.
