BuildCard details

The Commander

During your turn, each non-Equipment artifact and non-Aura enchantment you control with mana value 4 or greater is a 4/4 Elemental creature in addition to its other types and has indestructible, haste, and "Whenever this creature deals combat damage to a player, draw a card."

Guide

Gameplan

Bello animates your big artifacts and enchantments into indestructible, hasty 4/4s with built-in card draw, so you load the board with expensive permanents and swing every turn. You ramp into a critical mass of MV4+ noncreature permanents, then beat down while your static-value pieces keep generating advantage. Bello's anthem only works on your turn, so you commit, attack, and the threats revert to safe non-creature status on opponents' turns.

Strengths

  • Turns normally vulnerable noncreature permanents into resilient indestructible attackers that dodge sorcery-speed removal on opponents' turns
  • Built-in card draw on combat damage keeps the gas flowing without dedicated draw spells
  • Green-red ramp lets you deploy a wide board of 4/4s far ahead of curve
  • Threats are spread across many permanent types, making board wipes and targeted removal awkward

Weaknesses

  • No evasion baked in—ground stalls can blank the attack-driven draw and damage plan
  • Animated permanents are still 4/4s on your turn and die to exile or 'destroy all' effects on your own turn
  • Bello himself is a removal magnet; without him your expensive permanents are inert
  • Heavy reliance on high-MV permanents can lead to clunky, mana-hungry opening hands

Key Cards

  • Lightning Greaves — Cheap protection and haste enabler to keep Bello on the board attacking.
  • Nyxbloom Ancient — A 5/5 enchantment creature already, but as a Bello target it triples your mana while swinging for value.
  • The Great Henge — A cheap-to-cast MV9 artifact that ramps, draws, and gains life, then becomes a 4/4 with extra draw.
  • Portal to Phyrexia — Massive MV9 artifact that strips opponents' boards and reanimates, doubling as an attacker.
  • Cultivator Colossus — Floods the board with lands and cards, and other big enchantments/artifacts get animated alongside it.
  • Heroes' Podium — Legendary-matters anthem artifact that buffs your team and attacks as a 4/4.

Upgrade Path

Prioritize protection (Lightning Greaves, Heroic Intervention, Tyvar's Stand) so Bello and his board survive interaction, and add evasion or trample (Rancor, Akroma's Memorial) to make the 4/4s connect reliably. Tighten the curve so you hit MV4+ density without clunky hands, and include recursion like Eldrazi Conflux-style retrieval or Crime of Passion effects to rebuild after wipes. Finish with a few combo-adjacent bombs and mana doublers (Nyxbloom Ancient, Mana Reflection) to overpower the table.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Beating down with a wide board of indestructible, hasty 4/4s
  • ▸Snowballing card advantage from combat-damage draw triggers into overwhelming threats
  • ▸Leveraging high-impact bombs like Portal to Phyrexia or Nyxbloom Ancient for runaway value

Archetypes

  • Big Mana Ramp — GR ramp accelerates into a critical mass of expensive artifacts and enchantments that Bello turns lethal.
  • Aggro/Beatdown — Bello converts static permanents into a swarm of evasive-pressure 4/4 attackers that also draw cards.
  • Voltron-ish Value — Pumping a single animated permanent with equipment and counters closes games while drawing off connections.
