Kodama's Reach

{2}{G}

Sorcery — Arcane

LegalRampRank #36

Search your library for up to two basic land cards, reveal those cards, put one onto the battlefield tapped and the other into your hand, then shuffle.

Why is this card good?

Kodama's Reach is one of the best ramp spells in the format, and the reason is consistency. Unlike Rampant Growth, you get two lands — one to the battlefield, one to hand — so you both accelerate and hit your next land drop. That land-to-hand mode also smooths future draws and protects against board wipes that hit creatures (your ramp lives in your hand, not on mana dorks). It's nearly auto-include in any green deck running enough basics, especially three-color or higher commanders that need to fix colors. Cascade decks, Landfall (it triggers Lotus Cobra, Tatyova, etc.), and big-mana ramp strategies all love it. The fixing makes it superior to Cultivate only marginally (Cultivate puts both lands... wait — same effect, just reordered), so run both. Don't bother in heavily nonbasic manabases (Urborg/dual-heavy lists) or fast cEDH where {2}{G} for a tapped land is too slow. Mono-green decks with few basics also get less value, but most green decks want this.
