BuildCard details

The Commander

Nitro-9 — Whenever Ace attacks, you may sacrifice an artifact. When you do, put a +1/+1 counter on Ace, then it fights up to one target creature defending player controls.

Doctor's companion (You can have two commanders if the other is the Doctor.)

Guide

Gameplan

Suit up Ace as a green beatstick that grows when she attacks—sacrifice cheap or recurring artifacts to add +1/+1 counters and fight down the defending player's blockers, clearing a path for commander damage. You generate a steady stream of expendable artifacts (Treasures, Clues, tokens), use them as removal-on-attack fuel, and snowball Ace into a one- or two-shot threat. As a Doctor's companion she also slots into a partner build for extra value or evasion.

Strengths

  • Built-in repeatable removal that doubles as growth—each attack can kill a creature and pump Ace
  • Mono-green ramp and counter synergies make her cheap and fast to assemble
  • Artifact fodder is everywhere in green via Treasures, Food, and Clues, so the fight trigger is easy to fuel
  • Snowballs quickly into lethal commander damage and can dominate combat math

Weaknesses

  • Mono-green struggles with interaction—few counterspells and limited targeted removal for non-creatures
  • Heavily reliant on Ace connecting; targeted removal or repeated chump blocks stall the plan
  • Needs deathtouch or trample support so fights and attacks actually trade up
  • Single point of failure—if Ace gets answered, the artifact-sac engine loses its payoff

Key Cards

  • Ohran Frostfang — Gives Ace deathtouch so every fight kills regardless of size and draws cards when she connects.
  • Bloodforged Battle-Axe — A recurring, free artifact that copies itself each combat, providing endless fodder to sacrifice for fights.
  • The Ozolith — Banks Ace's counters if she dies and lets you reload her growth instantly.
  • Branching Evolution — Doubles every +1/+1 counter Ace gets from attacking, accelerating the path to lethal.
  • Lightning Greaves — Haste and shroud protect Ace from removal and let her attack the turn she lands.
  • Skullclamp — Cheap artifact you can sacrifice for the fight and reuse on cheap creatures for relentless card draw.

Upgrade Path

Add deathtouch and trample enablers (Ohran Frostfang, Rancor, Garruk's Uprising) so fights always trade up and damage gets through, plus protection like Heroic Intervention and Swiftfoot Boots to keep Ace alive. Lean into cheap, recurring artifact fodder (Bloodforged Battle-Axe, Sword of the Animist, Treasure makers) and counter multipliers (Doubling Season, Hardened Scales, Inspiring Call). Top-end finishers like Craterhoof Behemoth or Overwhelming Stampede convert a cleared board into a one-turn kill.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Commander damage from a counter-pumped, evasive Ace
  • ▸Overrun-style alpha strikes once Ace clears blockers (Overwhelming Stampede, Craterhoof Behemoth)
  • ▸Grinding the table out of creatures via repeated fights backed by deathtouch
  • ▸Trample plus huge counter totals trampling through for lethal

Archetypes

  • Voltron — Ace grows herself every combat and clears blockers, making commander-damage kills natural.
  • +1/+1 Counters — Her attack trigger feeds counter doublers, proliferate, and counter payoffs.
  • Artifacts/Sacrifice — She turns expendable artifacts into removal, rewarding token-artifact engines and recursion.
  • Stompy/Aggro — Mono-green ramp plus removal-on-attack lets you curve into a dominant midgame board.
