BuildCard details

The Commander

Whenever Armix attacks, you may discard a card. When you do, target creature defending player controls gets -X/-X until end of turn, where X is the number of artifacts you control plus the number of artifact cards in your graveyard.

Partner (You can have two commanders if both have partner.)

Guide

Gameplan

Build a critical mass of artifacts so Armix's attack trigger becomes a repeatable removal cannon, discarding a card to shrink (and usually kill) any blocker or threat the defending player controls. You ramp into cheap artifacts early, fill the graveyard, and use Partner to add a second strategic angle while Armix grinds the board down to nothing.

Strengths

  • Repeatable, instant-speed-style removal every combat that scales with your board and graveyard
  • Counts artifacts in the yard, so sacrifice and self-mill synergies feed it for free
  • Mono-black gives access to tutors, recursion, and strong card advantage
  • Partner slot lets you tailor the second commander and color identity to your gameplan
  • Cheap to cast and pressures multiple opponents over time

Weaknesses

  • X relies on having many artifacts in play/yard, so early game it does almost nothing
  • Requires Armix to attack and survive combat to function
  • Vulnerable to board wipes and artifact hate that erase your X count
  • Discard cost can drain your hand if you lack card advantage
  • Single-target removal only — struggles against go-wide token swarms

Key Cards

  • Mishra's Bauble — Free artifact that cantrips and, once in the graveyard, permanently boosts Armix's X.
  • Ornithopter — Zero-cost artifact body that pads your artifact count immediately for cheap.
  • Goblin Welder — Loops artifacts between battlefield and yard, but partner-color dependent; black has Trash for Treasure-style recursion instead.
  • Krark-Clan Ironworks — Sacrifices artifacts for mana while loading the graveyard to inflate Armix's removal.
  • Buried Alive — Stocks the graveyard with artifact cards to spike X without needing them on the battlefield.
  • Reckless Fireweaver — Pings opponents as artifacts enter, turning your artifact density into incidental damage (color permitting).

Upgrade Path

Add fast artifact mana (Sol Ring, Mana Vault, Mox Opal) and zero-cost artifacts to spike Armix's X by turn three or four. Lean into a sacrifice/recursion engine (Krark-Clan Ironworks, Scrap Trawler, Trading Post) so artifacts in the yard keep counting and rebuild after wipes. Choose a Partner like Tymna the Weaver or Akiri/Bruse Tarl to add card draw, evasion, or a second color that unlocks Disciple of the Vault and Reckless Fireweaver finishers.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Beating down with Armix and a fleet of artifact creatures while clearing blockers each combat
  • ▸Artifact ETB/death pingers (Reckless Fireweaver, Disciple of the Vault) draining the table
  • ▸Pivoting to your Partner commander's dedicated win line
  • ▸Grinding the board to nothing with repeated -X/-X, then attacking unopposed

Archetypes

  • Artifacts (Affinity/Big Mana) — The whole deck is built around flooding the board with artifacts to maximize Armix's -X/-X.
  • Aristocrats/Sacrifice — Sacrificing artifacts feeds value engines while still counting toward Armix's graveyard total.
  • Control/Removal — Armix functions as a recurring removal spell, letting you grind opponents out one creature at a time.
  • Voltron-adjacent Pressure — With evasion or protection, Armix becomes a clock that also clears its own blockers.
