BuildCard details

The Commander

At the beginning of your end step, if a creature died under your control this turn, draw a card.

Whenever the Ring tempts you, if you chose a creature other than Faramir as your Ring-bearer, create a 1/1 white Human Soldier creature token.

Guide

Gameplan

Faramir is a mono-white go-wide and aristocrats hybrid: flood the board with cheap creatures and tokens, then use sacrifice outlets and the Ring temptation to convert dead bodies into card draw and even more tokens. You win by attacking with a wide team, often pumped by anthems, while refueling your hand every turn through the death-trigger draw.

Strengths

  • Reliable, color-pinched card advantage in mono-white, a notoriously card-starved color
  • Synergizes deeply with token strategies and sacrifice outlets
  • Cheap to cast and re-cast at 4 mana, hard to keep down
  • Ring temptation gives extra tokens for free each time you're tempted

Weaknesses

  • Mono-white limits access to tutors, ramp, and recursion
  • Death-trigger only draws one card per turn no matter how many creatures die
  • Vulnerable to board wipes that empty your wide board
  • Needs sacrifice outlets or combat to reliably trigger the draw

Key Cards

  • Viscera Seer — Free sac outlet that guarantees a creature dies each turn to fuel the end-step draw.
  • Skullclamp — Turns your 1/1 tokens into card-draw engines, stacking with Faramir's death trigger.
  • Anointed Procession — Doubles every token, including the Ring temptation Soldiers, for explosive board presence.
  • Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite — Anthem and removal that makes your wide army lethal while shrinking opponents' blockers.
  • Smothering Tithe — Premier mono-white ramp to power out your token engines and anthems.
  • Heroic Intervention — Protects your wide board from the wraths that punish go-wide strategies.

Upgrade Path

Add efficient free sac outlets (Ashnod's Altar, Goblin Bombardment) and token doublers to maximize both the draw and the army. Layer in mono-white staples like Smothering Tithe, Land Tax, and Esper Sentinel for card and mana advantage, and lean on protection (Teferi's Protection, Flawless Maneuver) to survive wipes. For top-end, combos with Skullclamp plus a sac outlet and a token engine can draw your deck.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Alpha strike with a wide token army backed by anthems
  • ▸Aristocrats drain via effects like Blood Artist and Zulaport Cutthroat
  • ▸Overrun-style finishers like Cathars' Crusade plus mass attack

Archetypes

  • Tokens — Faramir generates Soldier tokens off the Ring and rewards a wide board for attacking.
  • Aristocrats — Sacrifice outlets feed his end-step death-trigger draw turn after turn.
  • Go-Wide Aggro — He fields an army cheaply and refuels your hand to keep the pressure on.
