The Commander

Flash

When Flash Thompson enters, choose one or both —

• Heckle — Tap target creature.

• Hero Worship — Untap target creature.

Guide

Gameplan

Cast Flash Thompson at flash speed to ambush attackers, tap down blockers, or untap a creature for pseudo-vigilance or extra mana, then abuse the enters trigger over and over with blink and recursion. The deck is a mono-white tempo/blink shell that uses repeated tap/untap effects to lock down a key creature, push damage, or generate mana, while a wider board of value creatures closes the game.

Strengths

  • Flash lets you hold up a surprise blocker or ambush a single attacker as a combat trick
  • Both modes off one ETB give flexible tempo: tap a blocker to swing or untap a mana dork/big attacker
  • Cheap two-drop body that fits any mono-white curve and is easy to recast as commander
  • Strong synergy with blink and bounce to repeat the trigger every turn

Weaknesses

  • Effect only hits one creature per cast, so it has limited board impact without recursion
  • Mono-white means weak card draw and no access to ramp beyond rocks and white staples
  • No inherent evasion or protection—relies on the rest of the deck to actually win
  • Tap/untap is symmetrical in usefulness only with the right targets; awkward when you have a small board

Key Cards

  • Restoration Angel — Flashes in to blink Flash Thompson, re-triggering the tap/untap as an instant-speed combat swing.
  • Conjurer's Closet — Free end-step blink of Flash gives a guaranteed tap-down or untap every turn.
  • Brago, King Eternal — Repeatedly blinks Flash and your other ETB creatures, turning every connect into a board lock.
  • Glasspool Mimic — Copies Flash for a second ETB and another tap/untap, doubling your tempo plays.
  • Sword of Feast and Famine — Untapping lands on hit plus equipping a creature you can untap for repeated swings pushes the deck toward a Voltron finish.
  • Karmic Guide — Recurs Flash from the yard and itself blinks for more ETB value.

Upgrade Path

Lean hard into blink enablers (Conjurer's Closet, Brago, Restoration Angel, Soulherder) and cheap recursion so the tap/untap trigger fires every turn. Add mono-white ramp (Smothering Tithe, mana rocks) and card advantage (Esper Sentinel, Welcoming Vampire, Mangara) to fix white's weaknesses. Pick a clear finisher—either Voltron equipment with untap synergy or a token go-wide package with Craterhoof Behemoth and Cathars' Crusade—so the tempo edge converts into actual wins.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Beat down with a wide board after tapping down the best blocker each turn
  • ▸Voltron damage from an equipped, repeatedly untapped attacker
  • ▸Blink-engine value snowballing into an overwhelming creature advantage
  • ▸Mass token finishers like Craterhoof Behemoth or anthem-fueled alpha strikes

Archetypes

  • Blink — Flash's ETB tap/untap is repeatable with flicker effects, making him a perfect blink-payoff commander.
  • Tap-Down Control — Heckle repeatedly taps the scariest creature or would-be blockers to stall opponents and clear attack paths.
  • Voltron — Hero Worship untaps your equipped beater for extra attacks or vigilance while tapping down the lone blocker.
  • Tokens/Go-Wide — A cheap white commander supports a token swarm that uses Flash to remove a key blocker each combat.
