The Commander

{T}: Exile Mangara and target permanent.

Guide

Gameplan

Mangara is a repeatable, color-blind exile machine: tap to remove any troublesome permanent (creature, planeswalker, artifact, enchantment, even a land) at the cost of also exiling Mangara. The deck turns that drawback into an engine by blinking, bouncing, recurring, and untapping Mangara to fire it every turn while building toward a mono-white win. You grind opponents out of resources, then close with tokens, a payoff bomb, or a stax lock.

Strengths

  • Repeatable, unconditional exile that answers anything in the format, including indestructible and protected permanents
  • Mono-white consistency with cheap recursion, blink, and tutors to keep the engine online
  • Only costs three mana and can come back from the command zone repeatedly
  • Pairs naturally with stax/taxes to lock opponents while you pick apart their board

Weaknesses

  • Sorcery-speed by nature and summoning sick on arrival, so removal is slow and telegraphed
  • Heavily reliant on supporting blink/untap pieces—without them it's a one-shot answer per cast
  • Vulnerable to instant-speed responses, sacrifice, and counterspells before you untap
  • Mono-white's classic lack of card draw and ramp can leave the deck behind on resources

Key Cards

  • Thousand-Year Elixir — Lets Mangara tap the turn it enters and effectively untaps it, doubling your exile output.
  • Brago, King Eternal — Blinks Mangara every combat for a free untapped removal trigger that resets the exile clock.
  • Conjurer's Closet — End-of-turn blink returns Mangara untapped and ready, recurring exile each turn.
  • Eldrazi Displacer — For two colorless you can blink Mangara at instant speed, turning it into a reusable on-demand answer.
  • Aura of Silence — Stax taxes that slow artifact/enchantment decks while Mangara dismantles their key pieces.
  • Smothering Tithe — One of mono-white's best ramp/advantage engines to fund the recursion package.

Upgrade Path

Lean into instant-speed and free reuse: add Eldrazi Displacer, Restoration Angel, and Flickerwisp alongside untappers like Thousand-Year Elixir and Aura of Silence to fire Mangara every turn. Shore up mono-white's weaknesses with fast mana (Sol Ring, mana rocks, Smothering Tithe) and card advantage (Esper Sentinel, Welcoming Vampire, Mentor of the Meek). Top-end the build with a focused stax shell and a compact win like Approach of the Second Sun or a token-anthem package.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Grind the table to nothing with repeatable exile, then win with a token swarm or anthem
  • ▸Lock opponents under stax while a single evasive threat or commander chips in
  • ▸Assemble a blink/untap engine to exile every relevant permanent and win uncontested
  • ▸Resolve a finisher like Approach of the Second Sun or a beatdown bomb after stabilizing

Archetypes

  • Stax — Mangara repeatedly exiling mana rocks, lands, and key permanents pairs with taxes to grind opponents into the ground.
  • Blink — Flicker effects reset Mangara from the battlefield so it can fire its exile ability every turn.
  • Control — A recurring catch-all removal commander lets you answer every threat while you stabilize and out-resource the table.
  • Tokens — Mono-white go-wide payoffs provide the offensive plan while Mangara keeps the board clean.
