BuildCard details

The Commander

Bushido 1 (Whenever this creature blocks or becomes blocked, it gets +1/+1 until end of turn.)

{1}{W}, {T}: Put a training counter on target creature. That creature gains bushido 1 and becomes a Samurai in addition to its other creature types. Activate only as a sorcery.

Guide

Gameplan

Sensei Golden-Tail anchors a mono-white Samurai/go-wide aggro deck that builds a wide board and uses bushido to win combat exchanges. You deploy cheap creatures, use the activated ability to grant bushido and Samurai typing to your team, then push damage with anthems and combat tricks. The deck closes games by overwhelming opponents in combat or alpha-striking when your creatures all out-muscle their blockers.

Strengths

  • Cheap two-mana commander that comes online immediately and is easy to recast
  • Bushido makes your attackers and blockers win combat math repeatedly
  • Strong Samurai tribal synergies and access to white's deep anthem/token suite
  • Mono-white consistency and cheap removal/board protection options

Weaknesses

  • Mono-white lacks card draw and ramp, leading to flood and topdeck struggles
  • Vulnerable to board wipes that erase your go-wide investment
  • Commander's ability is slow (sorcery-speed, one counter per turn)
  • Limited interaction with combo and ramp decks that ignore combat

Key Cards

  • Kentaro, the Smiling Cat — Samurai lord-style payoff that helps build and deploy a wide Samurai board.
  • Konda, Lord of Eiganjo — A premier Samurai with bushido and indestructibility that anchors your attacks.
  • Skullclamp — Mono-white's best card-draw engine, converting expendable tokens into a steady stream of cards.
  • Anointed Procession — Doubles any token production to flood the board for go-wide attacks.
  • Cathars' Crusade — Snowballs your team with +1/+1 counters every time a creature enters, stacking with bushido.
  • Smuggler's Copter — Cheap evasive threat that crews easily and fixes draws in a color starved for card advantage.

Upgrade Path

Lean into mono-white's best fixes for its weaknesses: add card advantage (Skullclamp, Welcoming Vampire, Mentor of the Meek) and protection (Flawless Maneuver, Heroic Intervention substitutes like Eerie Interlude). Add fast mana (Sol Ring, mana rocks) and anthem stacking (Cathars' Crusade, Anointed Procession) to accelerate the go-wide plan, then top it with a reliable finisher like Overwhelming Stampede or Craterhoof-style white alternatives such as Felidar Retreat token engines.

Archetypes

  • Samurai Tribal — Grants bushido and Samurai typing to any creature, turning your whole board into tribal payoffs.
  • Tokens / Go-Wide — White excels at flooding the board, and bushido plus anthems make each token a real threat.
  • Aggro — A cheap two-mana commander enabling fast, combat-focused beatdown.
  • +1/+1 Counters — The training counter theme pairs naturally with counter-matters cards and anthems.
