The Commander

Haste

Whenever Shadow the Hedgehog or another creature you control with flash or haste dies, draw a card.

Chaos Control — Each spell you cast has split second if mana from an artifact was spent to cast it. (As long as it's on the stack, players can't cast spells or activate abilities that aren't mana abilities.)

Guide

Gameplan

Shadow the Hedgehog turns a fast, aggressive Rakdos board into a card-advantage engine: flood the battlefield with hasty and flash creatures, attack relentlessly, and refill your hand every time one of them dies. Use artifact mana (rocks and Treasures) to give your spells split second, making removal, combo pieces, and finishers nearly impossible to interact with. You win by going wide and aggressive while drawing through your deck.

Strengths

  • Built-in card advantage that rewards aggressive trading and sacrifice
  • Split second on artifact-funded spells makes your key plays counter-proof and protects combos
  • Haste and flash synergies enable explosive, fast starts and instant-speed threats
  • Rakdos has elite removal, sacrifice payoffs, and Treasure generation

Weaknesses

  • Card draw stops if your hasty/flash creatures don't die — board stalls can starve you
  • Reliant on artifact mana to power Chaos Control; artifact removal sets you back hard
  • No built-in lifegain in an aggressive plan; punished by burn and combat damage races
  • Vulnerable to board wipes that erase the wide board you depend on

Key Cards

  • Dockside Extortionist — Floods you with Treasures that fuel both ramp and split-second spells via Chaos Control.
  • Goblin Bombardment — A free sacrifice outlet that converts your dying creatures into damage and triggers Shadow's draw repeatedly.
  • Ashnod's Altar — Turns creatures into artifact mana, enabling split-second spells while drawing cards off each sacrifice.
  • Purphoros, God of the Forge — Punishes opponents for your wide hasty board and adds reach as creatures enter and die.
  • Mahadi, Emporium Master — Generates Treasure every time a creature dies, snowballing both mana and Chaos Control enablers.
  • Feldon of the Third Path — Recurs your best creatures with haste so they can attack and die again for value.

Upgrade Path

Add more Treasure and ritual mana (Jeska's Will, Treasure Map, Big Score) so Chaos Control is online every turn, and lean into free sacrifice outlets like Viscera Seer and Carrion Feeder to guarantee draw triggers. Include aristocrat payoffs (Blood Artist, Zulaport Cutthroat, Bastion of Remembrance) to turn deaths into inevitable damage, and tighten the mana base with fast rocks (Arcane Signet, Mana Crypt) and recursion (Feldon, Phyrexian Reclamation) to rebuild after wipes.

Archetypes

  • Aggro — Haste granted to your team lets you apply immediate pressure and race opponents.
