BuildCard details

The Commander

When Bumi enters, choose up to X, where X is the number of Lesson cards in your graveyard —

• Put three +1/+1 counters on Bumi.

• Target player scries 3.

• Earthbend 3. (Target land you control becomes a 0/0 creature with haste that's still a land. Put three +1/+1 counters on it. When it dies or is exiled, return it to the battlefield tapped.)

Guide

Gameplan

Bumi is a mono-green midrange/lands-matter deck that stacks Lesson cards into the graveyard so Bumi's ETB triggers fire multiple modes at once. Ramp into Bumi, animate and pump lands with Earthbend, grow Bumi huge with counters, and beat down with oversized creatures and animated lands while scrying toward your bombs. Blink or recast Bumi to repeatedly reset the trial and rebuild your board.

Strengths

  • Scales with the graveyard — late game ETBs give big counters, card selection, and a recurring resilient threat.
  • Earthbend turns mana-base lands into hasty bodies that bounce back when killed, giving evasive, removal-resistant beaters.
  • Mono-green ramp consistency lets you cast a 6-drop early and abuse it repeatedly.
  • Counters on Bumi and lands synergize with green's deep +1/+1 counter and trample payoffs.

Weaknesses

  • Mono-green lacks interaction — little to no instant-speed removal or counterspells against combo.
  • Reliant on having Lesson cards in the yard; early Bumi casts are underwhelming.
  • Animated lands are vulnerable to board wipes and can cost you mana sources.
  • No built-in evasion or protection, so a single removal spell can stall the plan.

Key Cards

  • Doubling Season — Doubles every +1/+1 counter Bumi distributes to himself or Earthbended lands, instantly creating lethal threats.
  • Hardened Scales — Turns Bumi's counter modes into oversized payoffs cheaply and fits the counters theme.
  • Conjurer's Closet — Reliably reblinks Bumi each turn to retrigger the trial and rebuild after wipes.
  • Ezuri, Renegade Leader — Regenerates and overruns your counter-laden creatures and animated lands for a trample finish.
  • Crucible of Worlds — Recurs animated lands that die and supports a lands-matter grind plan.
  • Cultivate — Quintessential green ramp that fixes and accelerates you into Bumi and beyond.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana and ramp (Sol Ring, Nature's Lotus, Mana Crypt) to deploy Bumi turns ahead of schedule. Lean harder into counter doublers (Doubling Season, Branching Evolution) and finishers like Craterhoof Behemoth or Pathbreaker Ibex to convert wide/tall boards into kills. Include protection such as Heroic Intervention and Asceticism, plus more blink (Thousand-Year Elixir, Roaming Throne) to abuse the ETB every turn.

Core Cards

Win Conditions

  • ▸Beat down with a counter-stacked Bumi plus hasty Earthbended lands.
  • ▸Overrun effects (Ezuri, Craterhoof Behemoth, Overwhelming Stampede) for one-shot trample kills.
  • ▸Grind opponents out by recurring animated lands and out-carding them via repeated scry value.

Archetypes

  • +1/+1 Counters — Two of Bumi's modes pile counters onto Bumi and your lands, rewarding counter doublers and proliferate.
  • Lands Matter — Earthbend rewards a high land count and recursion to keep animating threats safely.
  • Blink/Recursion — Repeatedly flickering or recasting Bumi maximizes the graveyard-scaling trial triggers.
  • Stompy Midrange — Mono-green ramp into fat threats and trample enablers closes games through sheer board size.
