BuildCard details

The Commander

Forestwalk (This creature can't be blocked as long as defending player controls a Forest.)

As an additional cost to cast creature spells, you may pay any amount of mana. If you do, that creature enters with that many additional +1/+1 counters on it.

Guide

Gameplan

Chorus of the Conclave turns excess mana into permanent +1/+1 counters on every creature you cast, so you ramp hard, dump huge threats, and snowball a wide, oversized board. Early turns build mana rocks and dorks; once Chorus is out, each creature you cast becomes a counter-stuffed bomb. You close games by exploiting that counter density with anthems, populate/proliferate, and trample/flying finishers.

Strengths

  • Converts surplus mana into immediate, permanent board presence on any creature
  • Massive synergy with +1/+1 counter and proliferate payoffs in GW
  • Selesnya offers the format's best ramp and token/anthem support
  • Creatures enter big enough to dominate combat and survive most board states

Weaknesses

  • Eight mana commander is slow and painful to recast after removal
  • All the value is sunk into creatures, making you vulnerable to board wipes
  • Forestwalk is largely irrelevant in most pods
  • No card advantage or interaction built into the commander itself
  • Counters do nothing the turn a creature is killed in response or exiled

Key Cards

  • Doubling Season — Doubles every +1/+1 counter Chorus places, instantly making creatures absurd.
  • Hardened Scales — Cheap, repeatable counter multiplier that compounds with every creature cast.
  • Cathars' Crusade — Each creature you drop already arrives huge and pumps your whole board further.
  • Branching Evolution — Doubles incoming counters, turning even modest mana investment into giants.
  • Smothering Tithe — Generates the explosive mana you need to fuel Chorus's counter cost every turn.
  • Heroic Intervention — Protects your counter-loaded board from the wraths that otherwise blow you out.

Upgrade Path

Lean into counter doublers (Doubling Season, Branching Evolution, Hardened Scales) and proliferate so every cast snowballs, and add fast ramp (Smothering Tithe, mana dorks, Sol Ring) to consistently afford the additional cost. Add protection and resilience (Heroic Intervention, Teferi's Protection, Selfless Spirit) so wraths don't undo your work, plus an overrun finisher like Craterhoof Behemoth or Overwhelming Stampede to convert your board into lethal damage.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Swing with massively oversized creatures buffed by anthems and trample
  • ▸Go wide with tokens and overrun effects like Overwhelming Stampede or Craterhoof Behemoth
  • ▸Combo a single huge creature with double-strike/trample for commander damage
  • ▸Proliferate-driven counter explosions overwhelming the board

Archetypes

  • +1/+1 Counters — Chorus is a counter engine, so doublers and proliferate payoffs scale every creature.
  • Ramp Beatdown — Big mana feeds the additional cost, letting you flood the board with oversized bodies.
  • Tokens/Go-Wide — GW anthems and populate let you convert counter-pumped creatures into a lethal swarm.
  • Voltron — Pour mana into a single creature and suit it up with trample or evasion to one-shot.
