BuildCard details

The Commander

Landfall — Whenever a land you control enters, you may discard a card. If you do, draw a card.

Summon — {X}, {T}: Return target Saga card with mana value X from your graveyard to the battlefield with a finality counter on it. It gains haste until end of turn. Activate only as a sorcery.

Guide

Gameplan

Rydia is a value-and-recursion engine that loots aggressively off every land drop, filling the graveyard with Sagas you then reanimate with her Summon ability. You play out the early game on lands and ramp, dumping expensive Sagas with the landfall loot, then use {X}, {T} to slam them back from the yard at instant-restart with haste, chaining their best chapters and creature flips for repeated payoff each turn.

Strengths

  • Free, repeatable card filtering on every land drop fixes draws and binning Sagas you want to reanimate.
  • Summon turns the graveyard into a toolbox, replaying Sagas from chapter I for fresh ETB/chapter value.
  • Haste matters for creature-Sagas (those that flip into bodies) and lets reanimated threats attack immediately.
  • Cheap two-mana commander that's hard to answer profitably and reloads fast off the command zone.

Weaknesses

  • Heavily reliant on a stocked graveyard, so graveyard hate (Bojuka Bog, Rest in Peace) is crippling.
  • Finality counters mean each Saga can only be Summoned once, capping long-game recursion loops.
  • Summon's {X} cost competes with mana for ramp and land drops, making big Sagas slow to redeploy.
  • GR lacks strong interaction; you can struggle against fast combo and resilient control.

Key Cards

  • Kiora Bests the Sea God — A green Saga that makes an 8/8 and ramps—prime Summon target you can loot away and reanimate with haste.
  • The Akroan War — Red Saga that steals a creature and beats down, devastating when replayed from the yard each turn.
  • Crucible of Worlds — Replays fetched and sacrificed lands to spam landfall loots and chain Rydia's draw triggers.
  • Burgeoning — Extra land drops mean extra landfall loot triggers to dig and fuel the graveyard.
  • Life from the Loam — Dredges back lands for repeat landfall draws while filling the yard with Sagas to Summon.
  • Underworld Breach — A backup graveyard engine and emergency recursion that complements Summon's Saga reanimation.

Upgrade Path

Tighten the Saga package toward bombs with strong chapter-one or flip payoffs and pair them with fast self-mill/discard like Stitcher's Supplier effects to load the yard early. Add more free or cheap reanimation and extra-land-drop enablers (Exploration, Azusa, Ramunap Excavator) so Rydia's loot fires multiple times per turn, and lean into ramp to make large {X} Summons trivial. For higher power, include resilient combo finishes via Underworld Breach loops and tutors to assemble your best Sagas consistently.

Core Cards

Win Conditions

  • ▸Reanimated creature-Sagas (8/8s, stolen threats) attacking for lethal each turn cycle
  • ▸Overwhelming value advantage from looping Saga chapters until opponents are buried
  • ▸Going wide with token-producing Sagas and ramping into haymakers
  • ▸Big-mana payoffs cast off accelerated land drops and ramp

Archetypes

  • Reanimator — Summon is built-in graveyard recursion that loots away and replays high-impact Sagas.
  • Lands — Landfall looting rewards extra land drops, fetch loops, and Crucible/Loam recursion.
  • Value Midrange — Cheap commander plus repeatable card filtering grinds out incremental advantage.
  • Big Mana Ramp — GR ramp powers expensive Sagas and large {X} Summon activations.
