The Commander

{2}{B}, Sacrifice a creature: Each other player sacrifices a creature.

{2}{R}, Sacrifice an artifact: Each other player sacrifices an artifact.

{2}{G}, Sacrifice an enchantment: Each other player sacrifices an enchantment.

Guide

Gameplan

Shattergang Brothers turns your own expendable permanents into symmetrical removal that hits everyone but you. You flood the board with disposable tokens and value creatures, then repeatedly sacrifice them to strip opponents of their key creatures, artifacts, and enchantments while you reload. The deck grinds the table down through resource attrition and aristocrats triggers before closing with overwhelming token swarms or a combo.

Strengths

  • Repeatable, color-flexible removal that breaks parity by only forcing opponents to sacrifice
  • Excellent against go-wide creature decks, artifact decks, and enchantment-based strategies alike
  • Pairs naturally with token generators and death-trigger payoffs for incremental value
  • Activated abilities ignore hexproof, indestructible, and protection
  • Jund colors give access to the best ramp, recursion, and tutors

Weaknesses

  • Abilities are mana-hungry ({2} plus a sacrifice each), making you slow without ramp
  • Opponents choose what they sacrifice, so you can't reliably hit specific threats
  • Needs a steady stream of fodder or the brothers stall out
  • Vulnerable to graveyard hate shutting down recursion engines
  • No evasion or built-in win condition on the commander itself

Key Cards

  • Bitterblossom — Drip-feeds a free creature every turn as endless sacrifice fodder for the black ability.
  • Pawn of Ulamog — Generates Eldrazi Spawn tokens whenever your creatures die, fueling repeated sacrifices.
  • Grave Pact — Doubles your sacrifice value, forcing extra creature loss every time you feed the brothers.
  • Mycosynth Lattice — Turns every permanent into an artifact so your red ability can blow up everyone's whole board.
  • Smothering Tithe — Provides Treasure fodder for artifact sacrifices while ramping you toward repeated activations.
  • Pitiless Plunderer — Creates Treasures on every creature death, simultaneously generating fodder and mana for activations.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana (Sol Ring, Signets, Pitiless Plunderer) and free fodder engines to enable multiple activations per turn. Layer in death payoffs like Blood Artist, Zulaport Cutthroat, and Grave Pact so each sacrifice does double duty, then include recursion (Meren, Genesis, Eternal Witness) to never run out of fodder. Cap it with a lock piece such as Mycosynth Lattice to convert grindy advantage into a hard kill.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Resource-denial grind that strips opponents of creatures, artifacts, and enchantments until they can't function
  • ▸Wide token alpha strikes backed by anthems or sacrifice payoffs
  • ▸Aristocrats drain via Blood Artist, Zulaport Cutthroat, and mass sacrifice
  • ▸Combo locks like Mycosynth Lattice plus a sacrifice outlet to destroy all opposing permanents

Archetypes

  • Aristocrats — The brothers reward sacrificing creatures, so death-trigger payoffs convert your fodder into value and damage.
  • Stax — Repeatable symmetrical sacrifice paired with one-sided breaks lets you grind opponents off resources.
  • Tokens — Cheap token swarms supply endless fodder while threatening to win through sheer numbers.
  • Combo — Free-sacrifice loops with treasure or token engines can lock the table out of permanents.
