BuildCard details

The Commander

When The Fugitive Doctor enters, investigate.

Whenever The Fugitive Doctor attacks, you may sacrifice a Clue. When you do, target instant or sorcery card in your graveyard gains flashback {2}{R}{G} until end of turn. (You may cast that card from your graveyard for its flashback cost. Then exile it.)

Guide

Gameplan

Cast cheap, high-impact instants and sorceries, then swing with The Fugitive Doctor to sacrifice Clues and recast spells from your graveyard via flashback for {2}{R}{G}. You snowball card and resource advantage while building a board, eventually winning through repeated burn, big X-spells, or extra-combat finishers. Treat the graveyard as a second hand and the attack trigger as a recurring engine.

Strengths

  • Built-in card advantage from the ETB Investigate plus repeatable graveyard recursion
  • Reuses your best spells (board wipes, burn, ramp, draw) every combat
  • GR has excellent ramp, Clue payoffs, and treasure/artifact synergies
  • Can run a Doctor's Companion as a partner-style second commander for added value

Weaknesses

  • Recursion only works when attacking, so removal or chump blockers shut off the engine
  • Needs Clues available, which can dry up without token support
  • Graveyard hate (Rest in Peace, Bojuka Bog) cripples the gameplan
  • No evasion or protection natively; the Doctor dies to almost anything

Key Cards

  • Tireless Tracker — Generates extra Clues to fuel the attack trigger while drawing cards and growing.
  • Academy Manufactor — Turns every Clue into Clues, Treasures, and Food, supercharging your sacrifice fodder.
  • Comet Storm — A repeatable, multikicker X-burn spell you can flashback each combat to close games.
  • Lightning Greaves — Protects the Doctor and lets it attack immediately to start the recursion engine.
  • Wrenn and Six — Recurs lands and pings, and its ultimate gives all your instants/sorceries flashback.

Upgrade Path

Add token doublers and Clue generators (Academy Manufactor, Tireless Tracker, Anointed Procession) to never run out of sacrifice fuel, and pack premium spells worth recasting—board wipes, Beast Within, big burn. Improve consistency with fast ramp (Dockside Extortionist, Birgi, Jeska's Will) and protection (Lightning Greaves, Heroic Intervention), then add a strong Doctor's Companion to double your value engines.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Repeatedly flashing back X-burn spells like Comet Storm or Fireball
  • ▸Extra-combat and overrun spells (Aggravated Assault, Craterhoof Behemoth) recast each turn
  • ▸Grinding opponents out of cards via recursion advantage, then closing with the board

Archetypes

  • Spellslinger — The attack trigger rebuys instants and sorceries, rewarding a spell-dense list.
  • Clue/Artifact Tokens — Investigate and Clue payoffs feed the sacrifice cost and provide card advantage.
  • Midrange Value — GR ramp into impactful spells you can cast twice keeps you ahead on resources.
