BuildCard details

The Commander

During your turn, Cait has indestructible.

Whenever Cait attacks, you and defending player each draw a card, then discard a card. Put two +1/+1 counters on Cait if you discarded the card with the greatest mana value among those cards or tied for greatest.

Guide

Gameplan

Cait is a cheap, aggressive +1/+1 counter beater that snowballs by winning a discard mini-game on every attack. Cast her turn two, swing early and often, stack counters, and turn her into a hexproof/trample/double-strike threat that ends games through combat or a single commander-damage haymaker.

Strengths

  • Two-mana commander that beats down immediately and dodges removal on your turn thanks to indestructible
  • Counter growth is consistent because you control your hand and can dump fatties to spike the discard payoff
  • Built-in card advantage every combat keeps the gas flowing in long games
  • Plugs into both go-wide counter synergies and go-tall Voltron with minimal support

Weaknesses

  • Indestructible only protects on your turn, so she dies to removal, bounce, or exile on opposing turns
  • The draw-discard symmetry hands the defending player cards too, which can fuel reanimator/discard payoffs
  • No evasion baseline, so chump blockers stall a single attacker
  • Relies heavily on the commander; losing her repeatedly stalls the whole plan

Key Cards

  • Shadowspear — Cheap equipment grants trample and lifelink while stripping indestructible from blockers, helping counters connect.
  • Rancor — Recurring aura adds trample and power so Cait's counters punch through and the buff returns if she dies.
  • Hammer of Nazahn — Free attaching equipment that gives indestructible at all times and a big buff, closing Cait's defensive gap.
  • The Ozolith — Banks Cait's counters when she dies so you can rebuild her threat instantly after recasting.
  • Doubling Season — Doubles every counter payoff, turning each successful attack into four counters and accelerating the Voltron clock.
  • Greaves and Boots effects — Lightning Greaves/Swiftfoot Boots add haste and protection to cover her vulnerable off-turn windows.

Upgrade Path

Add proliferate (Inexorable Tide, Evolution Sage) and counter doublers (Doubling Season, Branching Evolution) to explode her growth, then lock in evasion and protection with Shadowspear, Whispersilk Cloak, and trample sources. Tighten the curve with strong ramp (Birds of Paradise, Igneous Inspiration-style rituals) and recursion like The Ozolith so repeated removal never resets your clock, pushing the deck toward a turn-six to eight commander-damage kill.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Commander damage from a counter-loaded, trampling Cait
  • ▸Going wide with counter synergies and an overrun effect like Craterhoof Behemoth or Overwhelming Stampede
  • ▸Doubling/proliferate engines turning Cait into an unblockable one-shot kill

Archetypes

  • Voltron — Indestructible plus stacking counters and equipment makes Cait a fast, resilient commander-damage threat.
  • +1/+1 Counters — Her attack trigger seeds counters every turn, feeding proliferate and counter-matters payoffs.
  • Aggro/Stompy — GR efficiency and an early evasive beater support a low-curve beatdown shell.
  • Spellslinger-adjacent value — The repeated loot effect digs to your best threats and pitches dead cards for tempo.
