BuildCard details

The Commander

Trample

Dyadrine enters with a number of +1/+1 counters on it equal to the amount of mana spent to cast it.

Whenever you attack, you may remove a +1/+1 counter from each of two creatures you control. If you do, draw a card and create a 2/2 colorless Robot artifact creature token.

Guide

Gameplan

Dyadrine is a GW counters-and-tokens engine that wants you to flood the board with creatures carrying +1/+1 counters, then attack to convert counters into card draw and 2/2 Robot tokens. Cast it for a lot of mana early to make it a beater, then build wide so each attack removes a counter from two creatures, refueling your hand and growing the army. You win by going wide with counters and overrunning the table once the engine snowballs.

Strengths

  • Cheap commander that scales with mana invested, so it's a real body even when cast big
  • Built-in card advantage every combat keeps your hand full and prevents you from running out of gas
  • Naturally synergizes with two of EDH's strongest themes, +1/+1 counters and token-go-wide, in the best color pair for both
  • Trample makes it threatening early and helps push damage with anthem effects

Weaknesses

  • The draw/token trigger requires counters on two creatures, so you stall if the board is wiped or counters run dry
  • Removal-light colors mean you struggle against decks that go over the top or combo off
  • As an artifact creature it's vulnerable to artifact removal in addition to normal creature removal
  • Wants a developed board to function, making it slow against fast combo and weak after a sweeper

Key Cards

  • Hardened Scales — Multiplies every counter you place, deepening the pool Dyadrine drains each attack.
  • The Ozolith — Catches counters from dying or shrinking creatures so your engine survives board churn.
  • Branching Evolution — Doubles incoming counters so two creatures can fuel many attacks of card draw and tokens.
  • Cathars' Crusade — Each token Dyadrine makes piles counters across the whole team, snowballing the board.
  • Anointed Procession — Doubles every Robot token, turning attacks into a flood of bodies and future counter fodder.
  • Doubling Season — Doubles both counters and tokens, supercharging the entire Dyadrine engine at once.
  • Conclave Mentor — Boosts counter placement and gains life, keeping the counter economy ahead of the drain.

Upgrade Path

Add counter doublers (Doubling Season, Branching Evolution, Hardened Scales) and proliferate effects (Evolution Sage, Flux Channeler) to make the engine self-sustaining. Lean into payoff finishers like Craterhoof Behemoth, Overwhelming Stampede, and Cathars' Crusade, and protect the board with Heroic Intervention and Teferi's Protection. Tighten mana with Sol Ring, fast green ramp, and dorks so you can cast Dyadrine huge and rebuild quickly after wipes.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Overrun the table with a wide counter-laden board plus Overrun or Craterhoof Behemoth
  • ▸Out-grind opponents on cards and bodies until combat damage finishes them
  • ▸Voltron-style trample beats from a heavily counter-loaded Dyadrine in the early game

Archetypes

  • +1/+1 Counters — Dyadrine consumes counters as a resource, rewarding counter doublers and proliferate to keep the supply flowing.
  • Tokens — It generates a Robot every attack and benefits from token doublers and anthems to go wide.
  • Aggro / Go-Wide — Trample plus a constantly growing board pushes combat damage to close games quickly.
  • Value Midrange — Repeatable card draw from attacking lets the deck grind out long games with raw card advantage.
