BuildCard details

The Commander

At the beginning of combat on your turn, create a token that's a copy of target noncreature artifact you control, except its name is Mishra's Warform and it's a 4/4 Construct artifact creature in addition to its other types. It gains haste until end of turn. Sacrifice it at the beginning of the next end step.

Guide

Gameplan

Build a strong artifact base, then each combat copy your best noncreature artifact into a 4/4 hasty Construct that also keeps the original's abilities (Equipment, mana rocks, Vehicles, eldrazi/artifact ETBs). Use those copies aggressively or for value loops with sacrifice/blink synergies, while ramping into expensive bombs and grinding incremental advantage. You can also abuse legendary artifacts and powerful ETB/attack triggers by churning out an extra body every turn.

Strengths

  • Free 4/4 hasty body every combat that carries the abilities of your best artifact
  • Loves expensive/legendary artifacts you'd normally only have one of
  • Built-in sacrifice synergizes with aristocrats and death triggers
  • Grixis gives access to the best removal, tutors, and card draw
  • Can copy mana rocks like Gilded Lotus for surprise burst, or Vehicles for crews

Weaknesses

  • Token is sacrificed each end step, so it's poor for permanent board presence
  • Effect does nothing without a good noncreature artifact in play
  • Heavily commander-dependent; removal or recursion-light boards stall it
  • Three-color manabase plus artifact synergies can be greedy and clunky
  • Vulnerable to artifact wipes like Vandalblast and Bane of Progress

Key Cards

  • Mishra's Bauble — Cheap artifact that draws a card when the copy is sacrificed, turning each combat into card advantage.
  • Sword of Feast and Famine — Copying it gives a hasty 4/4 that ramps and disrupts, while the original equips a real threat.
  • Lightning Greaves — Protects Mishra and the copy itself can wear shroud/haste utility while attacking.
  • Smothering Tithe — Copying it doubles your treasure generation off opponents' draws each turn.
  • Mox Opal — Cheap legendary mana artifact you can copy for explosive ramp turns.
  • Anointed Procession — Doubles the Warform tokens, giving two 4/4 hasty copies every combat.

Upgrade Path

Tighten the manabase with fast rocks (Mana Crypt, Mox Opal) and dual lands, then add tutors like Trinket Mage, Fabricate, and Whir of Invention to find your best copy target. Lean into sacrifice payoffs and recursion (Goblin Welder, Daretti) to abuse the end-step sacrifice as an engine rather than a drawback. For higher power, include artifact-based combos and protection (Lightning Greaves, counterspells) so a single board wipe doesn't end the game.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Beatdown with recurring 4/4 hasty Constructs carrying Swords and combat triggers
  • ▸Aristocrats drain via sacrifice payoffs like Blood Artist and Bastion of Remembrance
  • ▸Comboing off doubled mana rocks/Treasures into a big game-ending spell
  • ▸Copying threatening artifacts (e.g., a Vehicle or eldrazi) for repeated burst damage

Archetypes

  • Artifacts — Mishra rewards a dense noncreature artifact shell by animating your best piece each turn.
  • Aristocrats — The forced end-step sacrifice fuels death triggers and drain effects naturally.
  • Voltron/Equipment — Copying powerful Swords and Equipment creates a hasty carrier while suiting up your real attacker.
  • Value/Midrange — ETB and attack triggers from copied artifacts generate repeatable incremental advantage.
