BuildCard details

The Commander

Flying, vigilance

Whenever Augusta attacks, each player exiles a card from their graveyard. When one or more nonland cards are exiled this way, put that many +1/+1 counters on target attacking creature.

Guide

Gameplan

Augusta is a cheap, evasive aggro engine: swing each turn, exile graveyard cards, and dump +1/+1 counters onto a key attacker to snowball damage. Build a wide white board, attack early and often, and use the counters to push lethal commander damage or a go-wide alpha strike. Because the counter pile only needs nonland cards exiled (yours or opponents'), you reliably get fuel every combat.

Strengths

  • Cheap, evasive commander with flying and vigilance that both attacks and stays back on defense
  • Generates free +1/+1 counters every combat with no card investment
  • Mono-white makes the deck consistent, cheap to build, and resilient to color screw
  • Synergizes with both counters/+1/+1 themes and graveyard-hate, hosing reanimator decks incidentally
  • Vigilance lets her trigger repeatedly while keeping board presence

Weaknesses

  • Mono-white card advantage is historically weak, so refueling stalls
  • Counters fall off if the chosen attacker is killed or bounced in response
  • Removal-light combat plan struggles against board wipes and big blockers
  • Trigger requires graveyards to have nonland cards; empty yards (early game or against graveyard-light decks) reduce payoff
  • Vulnerable to flyers/reach that can block or race her in the air

Key Cards

  • Skullclamp — Mono-white's best card-draw engine, turning token deaths into a steady stream of cards to refill the board.
  • Hardened Scales — Multiplies every counter Augusta distributes, accelerating the snowball each combat.
  • Branching Evolution — Doubles the +1/+1 counters Augusta hands out, turning a fair trigger into game-warping growth.
  • Cathars' Crusade — Each creature you cast piles counters everywhere, stacking with Augusta's combat triggers for explosive boards.
  • The Ozolith — Banks counters when your buffed attacker dies, so removal doesn't erase your accumulated value.
  • Smothering Tithe — Solves white's mana and resource problems, fueling go-wide and equipment plans.

Upgrade Path

Add counter doublers (Hardened Scales, Branching Evolution, Doubling Season) and proliferate to maximize each trigger, then lean on Skullclamp, Smothering Tithe, and Welcoming Vampire to fix white's card disadvantage. Improve evasion and protection with Whispersilk Cloak, Swiftfoot Boots, and Flawless Maneuver so your buffed attacker survives removal. Tighten the curve with cheap efficient creatures and mana rocks (Sol Ring, Arcane Signet) to start attacking by turn three or four.

Core Cards

Win Conditions

  • ▸Commander damage from a counter-stacked, evasive Augusta or buffed attacker
  • ▸Go-wide alpha strike with anthems like Cathars' Crusade and counter doublers
  • ▸Overrun-style finishers (e.g., Felidar Retreat tokens plus a mass pump effect)
  • ▸Grinding out the table with continuous counter accumulation and incremental flyer damage

Archetypes

  • +1/+1 Counters — Augusta's attack trigger is a repeatable counter source that counter-doublers and proliferate effects exploit.
  • Voltron — Pile counters and equipment onto one evasive attacker to deal fast commander damage.
  • Go-Wide Tokens — A wide board provides attackers to target with counters and bodies for anthem-style alpha strikes.
  • Aggro — Cheap evasive threats plus free combat growth let white curve out and pressure the table early.
