BuildCard details

The Commander

Whenever Krang & Shredder enter or attack, each opponent exiles cards from the top of their library until they exile a nonland card.

Disappear — At the beginning of your end step, if a permanent left the battlefield under your control this turn, you may cast a card exiled with Krang & Shredder without paying its mana cost.

Guide

Gameplan

Repeatedly hit opponents with the ETB/attack trigger to bank a pile of exiled nonland cards, then trigger Disappear every end step by ensuring a permanent leaves your battlefield to cast one of those cards for free. You grind value by stealing the best spells off the top of opponents' libraries, blinking or recurring Krang & Shredder for more triggers while controlling the board with U/B interaction.

Strengths

  • Generates massive free value by casting opponents' nonland cards without paying mana
  • Both ETB and attack triggers, so blink and recursion effects multiply your exile pile
  • Blue-black gives premium interaction, card draw, and recursion to protect the plan
  • Disappear is easy to enable with cheap sacrifice fodder, tokens, or fetchlands

Weaknesses

  • Six mana and color-light payoff means a slow start without ramp
  • Disappear is randomized off opponents' libraries—you cast what you exiled, not what you want
  • Heavily commander-dependent; removal or repeated bounce stalls the engine
  • No built-in evasion or protection, so attacking can be risky into open mana
  • Free spells can be irrelevant cards that don't advance your game

Key Cards

  • Ashnod's Altar — Free sacrifice outlet that reliably satisfies Disappear every turn while ramping you.
  • Phyrexian Altar — Sacrifices a permanent to trigger Disappear and fixes mana to cast non-free spells.
  • Conjurer's Closet — Blinks Krang & Shredder each end step for a guaranteed ETB exile trigger and enables Disappear.
  • Ghostly Flicker — Reblinks the commander for extra exile triggers and the permanent leaving feeds Disappear indirectly via tokens.
  • Bitterblossom — Drip-feeds tokens you can sacrifice to satisfy Disappear without losing real resources.
  • Whir of Invention — Tutors your altars and blink artifacts at instant speed to lock in the engine.
  • Propaganda — Buys time so you can attack safely with the commander to stack exile triggers.
  • Sol Ring — Accelerates a six-mana commander into play a turn or two early.

Upgrade Path

Add consistent blink (Conjurer's Closet, Restoration Angel effects) and free sacrifice outlets (Ashnod's/Phyrexian Altar, Viscera Seer) so Disappear fires every turn automatically. Lean into reanimation and recursion (Reanimate, Animate Dead) to protect and reuse the commander, and add tutors plus evasion to make the attack trigger reliable. Tighten the mana with fast rocks (Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, Fellwar Stone) so you reach six mana early and rebuild after removal.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Snowballing free spells into overwhelming card and board advantage
  • ▸Casting stolen bombs and finishers off opponents' libraries
  • ▸Commander damage with repeated evasive or pumped attacks
  • ▸Out-grinding the table until opponents have no answers left

Archetypes

  • Blink/Flicker — Reblinking the commander each turn maximizes ETB exile triggers and free casts.
  • Aristocrats — Sacrifice outlets and dying tokens trivially satisfy Disappear every end step.
  • Value Grind/Control — U/B interaction plus stolen opponent spells lets you out-card the table over a long game.
  • Theft/Steal — The entire identity is exiling and casting opponents' best nonland cards for free.
