WRGNayaLegendary Creature — Human Warrior

Hazezon Tamar

Mana value7Rank#21,680
BuildCard details

The Commander

When Hazezon enters, create X 1/1 Sand Warrior creature tokens that are red, green, and white at the beginning of your next upkeep, where X is the number of lands you control at that time.

When Hazezon leaves the battlefield, exile all Sand Warriors.

Guide

Gameplan

Cast Hazezon (or land enough to make him impactful), then at your next upkeep flood the board with a Sand Warrior token army equal to your land count. Convert that wide board into damage via anthems, overrun effects, and aristocrats payoffs, then close fast before opponents stabilize. Protect Hazezon since his death exiles your whole army.

Strengths

  • Generates a massive token swarm scaling with lands, easily 7-10+ bodies in one turn
  • Nasubo color identity gives access to the best ramp, anthems, and Overrun effects
  • Tokens are all three colors, enabling powerful tribal/color-matters synergies
  • Strong recursion potential — reanimate or blink him to remake the army

Weaknesses

  • Tokens arrive a full turn after Hazezon enters, giving opponents a window to respond
  • Killing Hazezon exiles every Sand Warrior, a brutal one-card blowout via removal or board wipes
  • No evasion or protection built in; the army is vulnerable to sweepers
  • Seven mana and slow without ramp; clunky if removed before the upkeep trigger

Key Cards

  • Craterhoof Behemoth — Turns the wide Sand Warrior board into lethal trample damage in a single swing.
  • Cathars' Crusade — Each token entering pumps your whole army, snowballing the swarm into giant threats.
  • Skullclamp — Draws absurd cards off 1/1 tokens, refueling the deck after the initial dump.
  • Heroic Intervention — Protects Hazezon and the army from wraths and targeted removal that would exile everything.
  • Impact Tremors — Deals damage for every Sand Warrior that enters, providing a noncombat finish.
  • Ashnod's Altar — Sacrifices tokens for mana and combos with aristocrats payoffs before they get exiled.

Upgrade Path

Add fast ramp (Sol Ring, Cultivate, Nature's Lore) to deploy Hazezon ahead of curve and maximize land count for the trigger. Prioritize protection (Heroic Intervention, Teferi's Protection) and instant-speed payoffs so opponents can't blow you out by exiling the army. For higher power, lean into combo finishes like Craterhoof plus token doublers (Doubling Season, Anointed Procession) or an Ashnod's Altar aristocrats loop.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Overrun effects like Craterhoof Behemoth or Triumph of the Hordes for a lethal alpha strike
  • ▸Aristocrats drain via Blood Artist, Zulaport Cutthroat, and Impact Tremors
  • ▸Wide combat damage backed by anthems such as Cathars' Crusade and Beastmaster Ascension

Archetypes

  • Tokens — Hazezon's upkeep trigger creates an army scaling with lands, the core of any go-wide build.
  • Aristocrats — Sand Warriors are fodder for sacrifice engines and drain effects, sidestepping the exile clause.
  • Stompy/Aggro — Anthems and Overrun effects weaponize the swarm for fast combat kills.
  • Reanimator — Recurring Hazezon repeatedly remakes the token army for value.
