The Commander

Landfall — Whenever a land you control enters, you get {E}{E} (two energy counters).

You may pay eight {E} rather than pay the mana cost for permanent spells you cast.

Gameplan

Ramp into a flood of land drops to bank energy, then dump big permanents for free by paying 8 energy each. You want to chain extra land plays, generate huge energy reserves, and cheat out high-impact creatures, planeswalkers, and artifacts to overwhelm the table. Late game you're casting multiple bombs per turn without touching your mana.

Strengths

  • Effectively free casting of expensive permanents once energy accumulates
  • Strong synergy with extra land drops and land-recursion engines
  • Mono-green consistency with deep ramp and tutoring for lands
  • Energy alt-cost dodges color requirements, letting you splash powerful effects

  • Slow to come online without enough land-drop enablers
  • Removal of Nissa shuts off energy generation entirely
  • Mono-green lacks counterspells and flexible removal

Upgrade Path

Maximize extra-land-drop effects (Oracle of Mul Daya, Burgeoning, Wayward Swordtooth) and land tutors (Crop Rotation, Sylvan Scrying) to flood energy fast. Add the biggest impact permanents you can—Craterhoof Behemoth, Apex Devastator, planeswalkers, and game-ending artifacts—since energy makes their cost irrelevant. Round out with protection like Heroic Intervention and reliable recursion (Crucible of Worlds, Ramunap Excavator) to keep the engine resilient.
