The Commander

At the beginning of combat on your turn, up to one target land you control becomes an X/X Elemental creature with trample and haste until end of turn, where X is Obuun's power. It's still a land.

Landfall — Whenever a land you control enters, put a +1/+1 counter on target creature.

Gameplan

Ramp aggressively into lands while accumulating +1/+1 counters via landfall triggers, then animate a land each combat into a big trampling, hasty beater. You grind incremental value off every land drop, eventually overwhelming the table with counter-pumped creatures and animated lands.

Strengths

  • Strong, repeatable ramp and landfall payoffs in a color identity packed with land synergies
  • Built-in evasion and haste via Obuun's combat trigger lets animated lands hit immediately
  • Counters scale well with proliferate, doublers, and go-wide token boards
  • Naya colors give access to premium ramp, removal, and counter support

Weaknesses

  • Animating lands exposes your mana base to creature removal and board wipes
  • Obuun himself is a fragile 3/4 that the deck leans on heavily
  • Counter strategies are vulnerable to -X/-X effects and creature sweepers
  • No card draw or evasion in the color identity beyond what you build in

Key Cards

  • Scute Swarm — Each land drop floods the board with tokens that all become landfall counter targets and proliferate fodder.
  • The Great Henge — Obuun and counter creatures get huge, paying for the Henge and refilling your hand with explosive card draw.
  • Doubling Season — Doubles every +1/+1 counter from landfall and any token counters, turning value into a snowball.
  • Crucible of Worlds — Replays fetchlands and sacrificed lands to retrigger landfall and stack counters every turn.
  • Avenger of Zendikar — Creates a wide board of Plant tokens that grow with each subsequent land drop via landfall.
  • Walking Ballista — Loads up on counters from landfall then converts them into repeatable removal or a finisher.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana and extra land-drop enablers (Exploration, Burgeoning, Azusa, Oracle of Mul Daya) to multiply landfall triggers each turn. Layer in counter doublers and proliferate (Hardened Scales, Branching Evolution, Inspiring Call) plus protection like Heroic Intervention and Lightning Greaves to insulate your fragile commander and animated lands. Cap it with fetchlands and Crucible/Ramunap Excavator loops to make every turn an explosive landfall sequence.
